As the holiday season approaches, Chattooga County residents are invited to spread festive cheer by participating in the much-anticipated “Christmas Trees In The Park” event at Dowdy Park. This magical initiative encourages schools, churches, businesses, and individuals to showcase their creativity and holiday spirit through beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
The Georgia State Senate Study Committee on the Preservation of Georgia’s Farmlands is set to hold its final meeting today at 10 AM, at the State Capitol. Chaired by Senator Billy Hickman (R–Statesboro), the meeting will focus on proposing and adopting the committee’s final report regarding the critical issue of farmland preservation in the state.
The Chattooga 4-H Shotgun Team held a Ham and Turkey Shoot over the weekend. The shoot was held on Saturday at the old landfill off Butler Dairy Road in Summerville. Organizers say that the shotgun team was able to raise around $900 at the shoot. Another ham and turkey shoot is being planned before Christmas. Each year the Chattooga County Historical Society offers a new Christmas Ornament featuring a different historical place in the county. In the past, the ornaments have featured the Chattooga County Courthouse, the Summerville Depot, Reigeldale Tavern, Alpine Church, the Tooga Theater and the Lyerly Dam. This year, the ornament is a picture of Taylor’s Ridge at Sunset. The ornaments are available on the Historical Society’s website for $20 ( Here). They can also be purchased at DIRT in Summerville for $15. All of the past ornaments are available as well. Put some Chattooga History on your Christmas tree ! They will become family heirlooms for your children and grandchildren!

The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 39th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey provides a snapshot of the average cost of this year’s classic holiday feast for 10, which is $58.08 or about $5.80 per person.
