The Rome News Tribune reported on Sunday that the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital site, now known as the Battey Business Complex, is set to undergo a significant transformation in the coming year as demolition efforts ramp up.

Close to 50 football players on the team at Shorter University made decisions for Christ this year before the season started, and 17 followed through with believer’s baptism.
Zach Morrison, in his seventh year as head coach, described what happened after players arrived at the school in early August for preseason training and conditioning camp. “We took them to a couple of local churches,” he said, “and about 150 players visited Life Church.”
New regulations on the hemp industry will start in Georgia on October 1st. Right now, there is virtually no regulation of the products but all that will change next month. When the new law takes effect next month, it will prohibit retailers from selling hemp products to anyone under the age of 21 and impose labeling, packaging, and testing requirements on manufacturers. The legislation that was passed earlier this year will require hemp growers, manufacturers, and retailers to obtain licenses and pay a licensing fee. Violators will be subject to criminal misdemeanor charges and civil penalties. Products will also be limited. It will no longer be legal to sell smokable or food products containing hemp.
This past week the state election board passed a controversial new rule that will require hand counting of ballots on the local level. The Georgia Attorney General’s Office says that the rule will not stand up in court if challenged because it is not tied to any legislation. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is weighing on the decision.
The Chattooga County Friends of Shawn Harris are inviting the community out to meet the candidate at an event that will be held this week at the Chattooga County Ag Building on Middle School Drive, off Highway 100 in Summerville. The group says, “The Shawn Harris Cookout is sponsored by a bipartisan group of friends who want everyone to meet this candidate. Shawn is a farm boy, former teacher and principal, and soldier. The Trion Fire Department, along with Trion Police and the Georgia State Patrol responded to an accident on Highway 27 at Central Avenue on Saturday. The stoplights at the intersection were malfunctioning for a period of time as a result of the accident. The Georgia Department of Transportation was called in to repair the flashing red lights. WZQZ News will have more information on the accident when it is released by law enforcement.
The Chattooga Board of Education honored five teachers as “Teachers of the Year” at their respective schools. All five were recognized at the board of education meeting that was held this past Thursday. They included:
