Earlier this month, a fifty-one-year-old man with a warrant out of Catoosa County was arrested during a traffic stop by a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy, according to a report released late last week.
According to numbers released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor, Georgia’s job market has experienced a remarkable surge, with the number of jobs in the state reaching an all-time high of nearly 5 million last month. This impressive growth was driven by significant gains across several key sectors of the economy.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that a bonding company, not approved by the sheriff’s office, has conned several local families out of money. In Georgia, each sheriff has the authority to approve which bonding companies are approved to issue bonds for inmates incarcerated at the jail.

While it is probably not surprising that Chattooga County’s poverty rate is higher than the national average, what may come as a surprise is the demographic that is most affected by economic hardship is females aged 25-34, a prime working age where many are trying to establish careers and support families.
As the week progresses, the weather patterns in Northwest Georgia will be characterized by a mix of sunshine, showers, and thunderstorms. On Monday, the day will start off mostly sunny, with a high temperature reaching near 90 degrees Fahrenheit. However, there is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 1pm, potentially bringing some brief bursts of rainfall and rumbling skies. The winds will remain relatively calm throughout the day, with a light westerly breeze picking up in the afternoon. Transitioning into Monday night, the conditions will become partly cloudy, with temperatures cooling down to a low around 67 degrees, and the winds dying down to a calm state.
As property tax notices are going out in the mail, Chattooga County Tax Commissioner is reminding property owners that if you have an escrow account set up to automatically handle your property taxes and insurance, you will still receive a physical copy of your tax bill in the mail as usual.
The Summerville City Council is set to convene a special called meeting this evening at 5:30 PM. According to the official agenda released by the city just this past Friday, the council members will first go into a closed-door executive session to discuss matters related to pending litigation. Following the executive session, the city engineer and a panel of subject matter experts will present detailed information to the council regarding PFAS remediation efforts at the Raccoon Creek Water Treatment Plant. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a concerning class of man-made chemicals that have been found in the water supply and can pose health risks.
