The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the school shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday that left two teachers dead and nine additional people injured.  A fourteen-year-old student, Colt Gray, has been arrested and charged with murder.

A female pedestrian was struck on Highway 27 on Tuesday night.  According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, the woman was walking on Highway 27 near the entrance to Advance Rehab when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.  The victim was identified as Wanda Watson of Summerville.  She was transported by AtriumHealth Floyd EMS with serious injuries.  The name of the driver has not been released.  Sheriff Schrader says that the accident was worked by the Georgia State Patrol.  WZQZ will have more information when a preliminary report is released by the Georgia State Patrol Public Information Office.

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that six properties were sold on the courthouse steps yesterday.  There were 273 properties on the list for sale due to delinquent tax bills, but some paid before the sale or made payment plan with the Tax Commissioner’s Office.  There were also some that could not be sold due to title issues.  Tax Commissioner Hampton says those will be sold at a later date.  In all, the county collected $5,505.63 in taxes and fees off the properties that were sold.

A Chickamauga woman was booked into the Floyd County Jail Sunday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, theft by receiving stolen property, and obstruction of officers.

Summerville Main Street and the Chattooga Chamber will be hosting a ribbon cutting tomorrow at the reopening of a downtown Summerville restaurant.  Jefferson’s grand reopening will be held at 10:30 AM and will feature half-off select appetizers.  The restaurant first opened 13 years ago in 2011 in the former Richie’s Department Store location at 10096 Commerce Street.  The Jefferson’s Restaurant chain was founded in Jacksonville, Alabama with the original restaurant catering to the college crowd from Jacksonville State University.  Jefferson’s in Summerville says that they will be featuring a “fresher” menu and also have made updates to the “Georgia Room” adjacent to the main dining area.  Tomorrow’s ribbon-cutting will take place at 10:30 AM and the public is invited to attend.
