Summerville Called Meeting Monday

The Summerville City Council will have a called meeting on Monday of next week. On the agenda, the council is expected to finalize the contract with Jason Winters to become the next city manager.  Also the council is expected to approve a motion to allow Mayor Harry Harvey to sign a letter of support for the county to apply for a grant for the Tooga Theater renovation project.  That grant would come from the Appalachian Regional Commission.  The meeting will get underway at 5 PM and the public is invited to attend.

Week 2 of High School Football on WZQZ Tonight!

After kicking off the 2024 season with impressive wins, both of our local football teams will be looking to move to 2-0 tonight.  The Chattooga Indians, who opened with a 30-0 win over Lafayette last week, are 1-0 for the first time since 2019 and will be attempting to go 2-0 for the first time in 9 years as they will face off against the Coahulla Creek Colts at the Little Big Horn in Summerville tonight.  Coahulla Creek is 0-1 on the season after a 35-0 shutout loss to Northwest Whitfield last week.

The Trion Bulldogs opened with a dominating 30-6 win over archrival Gordon Lee last week.  The Dawgs will go on the road for the first time this season to Trenton tonight to take on the Dade County Wolverines.  Dade County is 0-1 after losing 23-13 at home to Ringgold last week.

Catch all of the action live tonight on WZQZ.  Both games will be broadcast live on the WZQZ Facebook page and the Chattooga vs Coahulla Creek game will be broadcast live on 99.1 FM and AM 1180 as well.  Join Chris “Bubba” Wilson and Steiner Davis for the Chattooga game.  Paul Cavin and Jeremy Burke will call the action for Trion from Dade County.  The pregame show will start around 7:15 with kickoff to follow at 7:30.

Menlo School Grandparents Night Next Month

Menlo Elementary School PTO is inviting parents – and grandparents – to attend the PTO meeting in September.  It will be “Grandparents Night” on Thursday, September 5th.  There will be snacks, crafts and a photo booth and an open house from 4 PM until 6 PM.  Parents and grandparents will also be able to visit classrooms and are invited to stay for the PTO meeting at 6 PM.
