With the support of Atrium Health Floyd, 17 area high school graduates from northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama will seek degrees in health care through the Rise to Success program, including one each from Trion and Chattooga High Schools in Chattooga County.
DeKalb County, Alabama Sheriff Nick Welden and Sheriff’s Office Investigators received a complaint by a concerned parent regarding a part-time deputy by the name of Joshua Dane Wells (40 of Fort Payne). Wells was not employed full-time by the Sheriff’s Office and was currently in the Alabama Law Enforcement Police Academy attempting to complete his certification to become a law enforcement officer.
Trion High School students will have the opportunity to rent lockers and parking spaces coming up next week on Tuesday, July 23rd. Locker rental is $25 and parking space permits are $30. All fees, fines and tuition must be paid in order to rent lockers or parking spaces.
The Georgia Foundation for Public Education (GFPE), the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF), and the Atlanta Football Host Committee (AFHC), along with a host of campaign partners, have joined forces to create the Georgia Teachers Initiative, a state-wide program dedicated to giving teachers the resources they need and recognition they deserve as they work tirelessly to prepare Georgia’s PreK-12 students for an optimal life. Trion City Schools fifth grade English language arts and social studies teacher Staci Corbin was recently recognized by the Georgia Teacher’s Initiative. In recognition of Mrs. Corbin, they said “Mrs. Corbin exemplifies innovation in the classroom by encouraging engagement through project-based learning. She offers students unique learning experiences and makes learning accessible for all her students”. Mrs. Corbin was awarded a $1,000 gift card and other items along with the recognition.

The Trion Farmers Market is going on today at the pavilion near the track field in Trion off of Simmons Street. Today at the Trion Farmers Market there will be tomatoes, squash, okra, carrots, cucumbers, butternut squash, butter peas, purple hill peas, eggs, honey, Ann’s famous cantaloupe, salsa, jams, jellies, pickled peaches, relishes, and fried pies. The market opens around 7 AM and featured fresh locally-grown produce and other home-produced goods.
SNAP recipients across the nation and right here in Georgia are reporting that their SNAP benefits are being used up — and not by them. Fraudsters are skimming their EBT cards while shopping and even stealing their card information through text.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan have announced that the We Care, Child Care Sweepstakes is open for entries. A total of four winners – one from each region Southeast, North, South Georgia, and Metro Atlanta – will be randomly selected to receive a $1,529 college scholarship.”
Jacksonville State University broke ground on the Randy Owen Center for Performing Arts on Tuesday. The $41.3 million development is partially funded by a $15-million state grant. Campus leaders say dedicating the building to Jax State alumni Randy Owen feels like the perfect fit.
