Sixteen students graduated on Wednesday, March 27, from Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Electrical Lineworker program during a ceremony at GNTC’s Polk County Campus in Rockmart.
The Chattooga County Sheriffs Office has released a report about the arrest of a man wanted in Oklahoma on rape charges. Dallas Lee Coosewoon, age 29 of Comanche County, Oklahoma, is wanted in connection with a rape case in Lawton, Oklahoma that took place in 2022.
The next meeting of the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will be held on April 10th at Noon at the Summerville Depot. This month’s meeting will feature the graduation of the third Leadership Chattooga Student Edition Class. Those who will be graduating from the program are: Walt Beach, Josie Brewster, Cameron Carter, Ally Croy, Addyson Daniel, Mollie Edge, Desmond Evans, Pippa Key, I’ziah McCutchins, Eme Mitchell, Melvin Ramirez-Pablo and Kinsleigh Turner. The special guest speaker for the luncheon will be Julian Hogan. Hogan is an alumni of the Leadership Chattooga Student Edition Program, having graduated from the first class. The Catoosa County Board of Elections held a meeting on Tuesday and voted 4-1 to allow four incumbent Republican candidates remain on the ballot. Lookout Mountain Superior Court Judge Don Thompson had ruled last month that the Catoosa County Republican Party could not prevent the incumbents from qualifying for the May Primary Election.
A forty-three-year-old Lyerly man was charged with driving under the influence after a traffic stop last week in Summerville. According to a report released on Monday of this week, an officer on patrol on Highland Avenue, shortly after 1 AM last Thursday, noticed a vehicle failing to maintain a single lane. The officer ran the tag which came back with a suspended registration. After initiating a traffic stop and speaking with the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment. Upon further investigation, the officer found an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. Charome Undera Powell was arrested and transported to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI.
Steve Briggs, President of Berry College, announced on Tuesday that he will be stepping down. Briggs has served as college president since 2006.

Two women were arrested by Summerville Police on Easter Sunday after a confrontation on Houston London Drive.
Local supermarket Grocery Outlet is teaming up with the Community Resource Center of Chattooga County for a community can drive. Canned goods and other nonperishable items will be collected April 3rd-April 9th at Grocery Outlet and all donations will go to help families right here in our community. The top three needs are: peanut butter, canned protein (canned meat products) and canned fruit.
Eleven agencies from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently organized a historic USDA career fair hosted at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). At the career fair, representatives from the 11 USDA agencies shared information on the federal career and internship opportunities available through the Department.
