WHAT: Weather permitting, crews will shift traffic this week on State Route 140 between Old Highway 140 and Big Ditch Road. The eastbound lanes will be shifted on one day, and the westbound lanes will be shifted the following day. Along with the traffic shift crews will be resurfacing and adding striping on the route. Please slow down and watch for workers in the area. The work is part of the SR 140 widening project which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

Georgia gas prices decreased at the pump compared to a week ago. Drivers are paying an average price of $3.32 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 3 cents less than a week ago, 12 cents more than a month ago, and 10 cents more than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $49.80 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying almost $2.00 more to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.
A man who fled from police was killed when his vehicle crashed on I-75 near Adairsville Monday morning. Another person died as a result of a secondary accident caused by the first crash.

A Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested a wanted Oklahoma accused rapist shortly after 2 AM on Sunday, according to arrest records from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Dallas Lee Coosewoon, age 29 of Comanche County, Oklahoma, is wanted in connection with a rape case in Lawton, Oklahoma that took place in 2022.
$30,000 has been awarded to Walker County, Georgia from Connect Humanity, a nonprofit impact fund, to participate in the Appalachian Digital Accelerator, an initiative that supports communities as they create custom connectivity plans: roadmaps for improving internet connectivity that leads to new economic opportunities and healthier communities.
The cause of a house fire on Plum Street in Trion last Monday remains under investigation. The fire happened in the early morning hours of March 25th and totally destroyed a mobile home and damaged another nearby structure. A single-mother and her children were displaced by the fire.
Turkey season on private property opened up this past weekend and will open on Georgia’s public lands and WMA’s and National Forest land this coming weekend, on Saturday, April 6th. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resource Division is encouraging safety.
