Mr. James Marvin “Jimmy” Childers, Jr., age 61, of Trion, GA, died Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at his residence.
 
Mr. Childers was born June 19, 1958, son of Mary Laura Ann Smith Childers and the late James Marvin Childers, Sr.  He was a member of Old Path Baptist Church and was a self-employed mechanic.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Randall Childers; nephew, Joshua James Childers; and brother-in-law, Jerry Allen Bramlett.
 
Survivors include his wife, Stella Rayenell Bramlett Childers; sons, Jamie (Amanda) Childers, Keith Childers, Alan Mowry (Shado Day); daughter, Amy (Anthony) Dennis; step-children, Brandon Mowry, Brook Mowry; mother, Mary Laura Ann Smith Childers; brothers, Steve Childers, Gary Rape; sister, Elaine (Paul) Dodd; grandchildren, JameyBeth Childers, Ely Childers, Kawyer Dennis, Kaycee Dennis, Carlee Childers, Sawyer Mowry, Cannon Mowry, Megan Mowry, Hunter Wyatt, Kaitlyn Mowry.
 
Private funeral services for Mr. Childers will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Old Path Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Price officiating.  Interment will follow in Perennial Springs Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jim Wright, Carlton Jackson, Jason Childers, Joseph Jackson, Jerry Crabtree, and Greg Hewitt.
 
Mr. Childers will be in state at Old Path Baptist Church from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour on Thursday.

Ms. Carrie Mell Mitchell, age 86, of Menlo, GA, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020, at her residence.
 
Ms. Mitchell was born March 31, 1934, in Cherokee County, AL, daughter of the late Coleman Hill Wood and Edra Helms Wood.  She was of the Baptist faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Kenneth “Kenny” Mitchell; a daughter, Cathy Mitchell; a brother, Dewond Wood; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Spunkey and Cindy Mitchell; grandchildren, Stacy and Jennifer Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, Blake Mitchell, and Jordan Davenport; great-grandchildren, Macy Mitchell Brush, Allie Mitchell, Eme Mitchell, and Joce Mitchell; great-great-granchild, Delta James Brush.
 
Due to gathering restrictions, services for Ms. Mitchell will be held privately for immediate family only with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Private interment will follow at Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Stacy Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, Blake Mitchell, Max Treadaway, and Jeff Smith.

Mr. James Robert “Bob” Bennett, Obit (Henderson & Sons)

Mr. James Robert “Bob” Bennett, age 93, of Rome, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020, at his residence.

Bob was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on October 13, 1926, son of the late Eula Beatrice Flippo Bennett and the late Otis Richard Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Byron Wofford, one grandson, three sisters and four brothers.

 Bob was a World War II veteran and served our country in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 5 for 19 years, where he was the Bugler for the Honor Guard and was Legion Commander from 2007-2008.  Bob was blessed with the outstanding citizen award from the state of Georgia on October 25, 2006, and he was selected as a WWII veteran to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  Prior to his retirement, he was a receiving clerk with Kroger for 10 years and he worked at Trend Mills for 10 years, where he received the Dedication Service Award from 1982 to 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Joyce Smith Bennett; sons, Charlie Bennett, Gary Bennett, Phil Wofford and Greg Wofford; daughters, Betty Clark, Sue Willingham, Lynn Guyton; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews.

 In accordance with federal and state guidelines, funeral services for Mr. Bennett will be private.  Interment will be in Summerville Cemetery, with special friends Kevin McGonigal and Phil Wofford officiating.
