Mr. Billie Gene Stewart, age 88, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, December 27, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Stewart was born April 20, 1937, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Will and Georgia Barr Stewart. He was of the Baptist faith and prior to his retirement, was employed with Georgia Rug Mill. Mr. Stewart loved hunting and fishing and served as a baseball and football coach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marzell Nelson Stewart; sister, Diane McNair; and brothers, Gene Stewart and Jay Stewart.

Survivors include his sons, Donnie (Rosemary) Stewart, Dennis (Debbie) Stewart, Jr.; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Jason Lee officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Stewart, Dennis Stewart, Jr., Chang Stewart, Joey McNair, Nick Stewart, Issaic Stewart, and Brandon Stewart.

Mr. Stewart will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday.

Howard V Hughes Sr, Obit (M)

Howard V Hughes Sr. passed away on December 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, music, and faith. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Allie Jo Hughes, whom he cherished deeply.

Howard retired from Mt. Vernon Mills at the age of 65 after many years of dedicated service. A gifted musician, he had a lifelong love for music and was skilled in playing the guitar, bass, and other musical instruments. He found great joy in attending bluegrass festivals, participating in community music events, and sharing his musical talents during church services.

Above all, Howard deeply loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his church family. In his later years, his greatest pleasures were making music, spending time with his family, and enjoying visits to local restaurants with Carolyn.
Howard would have celebrated his 82nd birthday on December 25, 2025. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong faith, and the music that filled his life and the lives of those who loved him. His legacy will continue to live on in every song, every memory, and every life he touched

Howard is survived by his children: Patty Bishop and her husband Randy Bishop, Howard Hughes Jr. and his wife Ann Hughes, and Tammy Lau. He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie Blackmon, Samantha Mendence and her husband Donald Mendence, Shannon Curtis, and RJ Bishop, and a joyful great-grandfather to Pierce Blackmon, Kade Blackmon, Millie Blackmon, Beckham Mendence, Kova Curtis, and Rowan Curtis. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth Hughes and Anthony Hughes, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved friend, Carolyn Blackmon, who brought him great companionship and happiness in recent years.

Mrs. Edna Ray Wilkerson, age 82, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mrs. Wilkerson was born June 5, 1943, in Cedartown, GA, daughter of the late Floyd Thomas Ray and Ruby Lee McCurry Duggar. She was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Wal-Mart.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Ronald Lee, Jr.; brother, Thomas Eugene Ray; sisters, Helen J. Kitts and Polly Ruff O’Neil; and a grandson, Austin Ry Lee.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, David Wilkerson; son, Billy Wilkerson; daughters, Wendy (Jerome) Murkerson, Davina (Coy) Edwards; a brother, Donald Duggar; sisters, Judy Kubicki, Marilyn Moore, and Mary Saunders; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Stallings, Keith Lee, John Lee, Layla (Taylor) Lee, Nakiah (Colin) Hilton, Sarek (Paulina) Siffles, Jayden Siffles, River Wilkerson-Snowball, Stephen (Kezia) Murkerson, Daniel (Savannah) Murkerson, Kristina (Jared) Childers, Samantha Richards, Barbara Carter, Dakota Wilkerson, and Lane Wilkerson; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Kathy “Granny Shake” Terry Obit (M)

Mrs. Kathy “Granny Shake” Terry, age 60, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, December 21, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Terry was born April 16, 1965, in Lafayette, GA, daughter of the late Billy David Abernathy and Shirley Marie Crane Abernathy.  She was Baptist by faith and was a homemaker who loved being a Baseball Granny for the Dirt Devils Baseball team.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Terry.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Bridges; daughter, Jenna Terry (Darin McGuire); bonus daughter, Anna Hudson; step sons, Jeff Bridges, Corey Bridges; brother, Tim (Tina) Abernathy; sisters, Judy Slaughter, Tonya (Whistle) Dawson, and Melinda Clark; grandchildren, Joshua McGuire, Jayci McGuire. She also had two special friends, Jane Price and Shenia Glass.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 29, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Reynolds and Rev. David Dutton officiating. John Wayne Stowe, Obit (C)

Mr. John Wayne Stowe, age 60 of Trion, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 25, 2025 in a Rome hospital.

Mr. Stowe was born in Lafayette, Georgia on March 10, 1965, son of Charlotte Clements Stowe and the late John David Stowe. He was employed with Mohawk Industries, where he was an electrician. Mr. Stowe was an avid outdoorsman and loved doing anything that had him outside.

Mr. Stowe is survived by his wife, Tonya Stowe; daughter, Stephanie Stowe; step-daughter, Kaitlin Montgomery; mother, Charlotte Stowe; brother and sister-in-law, Lance and Sheila Stowe; grandson, Cayden “Pork Chop” Dodd; his pup-pup, Daisy; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Stowe will be held Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Chris Gibson officiating. Those desiring to attend the graveside are asked to assemble at the West Hill Cemetery at 2:45 P.M. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Cayden Dodd, Brandon Stowe, Dennis Bandy, Terry Tinney, Phil Hall, Kevin Lee, Mike Anderson and Steve Anderson.

MRS. ANNIE RUTH MARTIN, age 91, of Highway 48, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, December 26, 2025, at her residence. Native of Summerville, Georgia, She was born on April 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Maybelle Haggard Abernathy. Prior to retirement, she was a beautician for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Billy Martin, Sr., son, the late Jack Warren, and daughter, the late Brenda Bearden; She was a member of the Alpine Community Church.

Surviving are son, Billy (Cindy) Martin, Jr.; sister, Pam Abernathy; grandsons, Todd, James, and Zach Bearden; granddaughters, Chris Ann Martin Davenport and Amy Martin (Cody) Crane; great grandsons, Jared Bearden, Raidyn and Reece Davenport, and Dawson Crane.

Mr. Larry Russell “Meathead” Maddux, Sr., age 79, of Trion, GA, died Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Chattanooga, TN.

Larry was born August 15, 1946, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late J.C. and Olene Russell Maddux. He attended the Trion First Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills. “Meathead” was a talented musician, teaching countless others how to play many instruments throughout his life. He was a member of the Trion Lodge # 160, F&AM.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Maddux was preceded in death by his brothers, Lynn Maddux and Mark Maddux; grandson, Austin Maddux; and a nephew, Jody Maddux.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gerry Henderson Maddux; sons, Rusty Maddux and Derry (Amanda) Maddux; daughter, Keisha Maddux (Ben Latta); grandchildren, Russ Maddux, Olivia Maddux, Daven Maddux, Josie (Chandler) Pettyjohn, Lincoln Maddux (Kaylin Bishop), Toby Maddux, Maddux Colbert, Stetson Colbert, and Knox Latta; great-grandchildren, Kason Maddux, Hallee Pettyjohn, and Hazel Pettyjohn. He is also survived by special cousin, Bobbye Jo Davidson, many nieces and nephews, as well as an immeasurable amount of close, personal friends.

Betty Ruth Abernathy Harrelson, age 84 of Centre passed away Friday, December 19, 2025 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held 1:00PM Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Lakeview Holiness Church with Gail Sharp, Bro. Mark Willingham and Bro. Randy Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11AM until the time of service Saturday at the church.

She is survived by her sons, Bobby Harrelson and Daniel Harrelson; daughters, Janice Woodall, Wanda Cross and Linda Acrey; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; special friends, Gail Sharp and Maxine Fowler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Harrelson; son, Tony Harrelson; daughters, Pamela Johnson and Betty Sue Anthony; brothers, Jimmy Abernathy, Johnny Abernathy and Leon Abernathy; sister Ruby Montain.

Ms. Harrelson was a lifelong resident of Alabama and was the daughter of the late Sevie Robert and Bertha Mae Abernathy. She was a member of Lakeview Congregational Holiness Church for over 60 years.

Mrs. Rose Marie Shelton, age 77 of Bakersfield, California, formerly of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025 in Bakersfield, California.

Mrs. Shelton was born in Trion, Georgia on April 24, 1948, daughter of the late Ray Littleton Perkins, Jr. and Marie Dentmon Perkins. She was a retired nurse and had been living in Bakersfield for the last year.

Mrs. Shelton is survived by two sons, Bryan Shaw and Christopher Shelton; sister, Jeannie Perkins, niece, Valeri; seven grandchildren; and a number of additional extended family members and friends.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Shelton will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with her son, Bryan officiating. Private Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Lynn Bartlett age 74 of the Teloga Community passed away Friday, December 12, 2025 at a local hospital.

Ms. Bartlett was born June 14, 1951 in Trion, GA to the late Henry & June Stowe Rider. She was retired from the Human Resources Department at Shaw Industries and most recently retired from the dietary department of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed painting and watching cooking shows.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by several siblings.

Survivors include her partner of 30 years, Brannon Brown; son, Stephen Dale Hood, II; and daughter Stephanie Hood Harris.

In accordance with her wishes, the family will plan a celebration of life for Ms. Bartlett for close friends and family at a later date.
