Master Johnathan Lucas Mitchell and Miss Kalee Grace Mitchell infant twins of John and Lucy Reynolds Mitchell, were born and passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Hutcheson Medical Center. They were preceded in death by their grandparents, Leroy “Buddy” Reynolds, Jr., Kathy Carroll Mitchell and Wayne Sweet; Great grandparents, Rev. Billy Cox, Boyd and Lucille Barton, Bunk and Mattie Harris Carroll and J.W. Mitchell.

Master and Miss Mitchell are survived by their parents, John Mitchell and Lucy Reynolds Mitchell; brother, Jadon Aaron Mitchell; step-sister, Brittany Matney; grandparents, Janice Reynolds Sweet, Berlene Cox, Lois and Charles Edwards; step-grandmother, Teresa Kidd; Aunts and Uncles, Buddy Reynolds, Rena and Ronzie Carroll, Charolette and Dustin Rush, Katie Mitchell and Wesley Craig; Cousins, Stephanie Reynolds, Tabitha and Christine Floyd, Ethan O’Dell, Andrew and Devin Rush, Andrew Carroll and Weston Craig.

Funeral Services for Master and Miss Mitchell will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Highland Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Subligna Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Reynolds and Tim Kidd. An Honorary Pallbearer will be Dustin Rush. 

Master and Miss Mitchell will be in state at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church where the family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Horace Junior McWhorter Obit (C)

Mr. Horace Junior McWhorter, age 86 of Trion, GA passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab.  Mr. McWhorter was born September 7, 1928 in Trion, GA.  He was retired from the Weaving Department of Riegel Textile Corporation.  Mr. McWhorter loved to fish.
   Mr. McWhorter was preceded in death by sisters, Mackie Jean McWhorter, Annie McWhorter and Rilla McWhorter; brothers, Ralph McWhorter, W. L. McWhorter, and grandson, Jamie Wells.
   Mr. McWhorter is survived by wife, Hazel McWhorter; son, Kenneth (Stacie) McWhorter; daughters, Loretta Hensley (Wayne Rogers), Darlene McWhorter, JoAnn McWhorter, Tammy McWhorter (Nigel Brown) and Wanda (Chris) Greene; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Billy Wright officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. 
   Visitation for Mr. Horace Junior McWhorter will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Mrs. Harriet Ann Sirt Obit (C)

Mrs. Harriet Ann Sirt, age 79 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Mrs. Sirt was born in Trion, GA on May 14, 1935.  Mrs. Sirt was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Sirt.  She was an dog lover and was retired from Mount Vernon Mills as a Weaver.
   Mrs. Sirt is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Kay Wofford and Paul and Lynn Wofford; daugter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeff Bullard; grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Shannon Bullard, and Brandy Wofford; and a number of great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Ford officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
   Visitation for Mrs. Harriet Ann Sirt will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 where the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Gordon Julian Chandler Obit (M)

Mr. Gordon Julian Chandler age 82, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home.

 

Mr. Chandler was born May 16, 1932 in Harrisburg, GA, where he lived most of his

life within a three mile radius.  He was the son of the late Clifford Morris Chandler and Mary Lou Wright Chandler.  Mr. Chandler was a member of the Harrisburg Nazarene Church.

He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Chandler.

 

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Chandler; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Dennis

Dill, and Rebecca and Jason Cooper; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Lindsay

Chandler; grandchildren, Bridgette Stephens, Emma Cooper, Kara Cooper, Carson

Dill, and Julian Chandler.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the

Harrisburg Nazarene Church, with Pastor Pam Frye and Rev. Tommy Russell

officiating.  Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Raymond

McRae, Mike Jones, Mike Cleghorn, David McRae, Dover Pence, and Jerry Durham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Byrd, Lebron Chandler, Jim Chandler, Nelson

Chandler, Hugh L. Wilson, Jimmy Rains, Gary Howell and Mack Agnew.

 

Mr. Chandler will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015.  He will also lie

in state at the church on Wednesday from 2:30 until the service hour.  In lieu of

flowers the family respectfully request memorials be made to St. Jude or the

Harrisburg Nazarene Church Building Fund.

Mr. Robert Franklin Stewart, III Obit (C)

Mr. Robert Franklin Stewart, III age 71 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Life Care Center in Red Bank, TN.

Mr. Stewart was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 31, 1943, son of the late Robert “Bud” Steward, Jr. and Mary Evelyn Dalton Stewart Mitchell. He was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church and prior to retirement was self employed as a brick mason and was a gardener, winning many awards for his prized roses. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Morgan Stewart on September 25, 2004.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his daughters, Dena DOIG and Donna SANTIFORT of North Carolina; step children, Kim Bryson of Lafayette, Elizabeth Faye of Illinios, Kenneth Brownlee of Summerville and Howard McMillin, Jr of Illinois.; brothers, Donald and David Stewart of Rome; sisters, Shirley Ducker of Signal Mountain, Rita Tindall of Coldwater Mississippi, and Sheryl Treadway of Rome, GA; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Stewart will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Glenda Frances Goodridge Bennett, age 64, Lyerly, GA, passed away Saturday February 14, 2015, in Floyd Medical Center.
Mrs. Bennett was April 30, 1950, in Trion, GA, the  daughter of the late Orbarn and Oneida Bailey Goodridge.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Danny Goodridge.
 
Survivors include Tony Cook, son, James I. Bennett JR, and friend, Tommy Lamar McKinnon, sister and brother-in-law, Shelia and Bobby Nixon, brother, Steve and Sue Goodridge.

Mrs. Deborah Ann Bentley Brewster, age 53, of Cedar Bluff, AL, passed away Saturday February 14, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Brewster was born December 14, 1961, in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late James Buddy and Willa Dean Bice Bentley.  She was formerly employed as manger of the Huddle House. Preceded in death by step-daughter, Michelle Keith, granddaughter, Destiny Kimbrough.

Ms. Willie Mae “Polly” Warren Obit (ER)

MISS WILLIE MAE “POLLY” WARREN, age 91, of Penn Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, in the local health care. A Chattooga County native, She was born to the late William Dewitt and Hattie Belle Woods Warren on June 15, 1923. Ms. Warren was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church and was retired from the cloth room of Mount Vernon Mills after 37 years of service. She was preceded in death by siblings, Frances Green, Louise Warren, Nettie Owens, and Jules D. Warren.

Surviving are niece, Lorene Pinson, nephew, Jimmy Green, thirteen Great Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Miles Phillips officiating, entombment in Greenhills Memory Garden. The Family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 P.M. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

MRS. MATTIE LEE BROOME, 89, of Espy Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, morning. She was born on December 31, 1925, Gaylesville, Alabama, daughter of the late Harrison Teen and Lora Livingston Smith. Mrs. Broome attended Gaylesville Grammer School until 1939 when the family moved to Summerville. She attended & graduated from Trion High School in 1945, was graduated from Carrol Lynn Business School in Rome in 1947. She was employed with National Life & Accident Ins. Co. holding many office positions, eventually served as Cashier and Office Supervisor, retiring after 35 years.Was preceded in death by Her husband, the late Paul Broome on September 28, 2010, sisters, Carris Smith, Ola Smith Cochran, Edna Smith Beck, & Flora Inez Smith, brothers, James R. Smith, and Milton O. Smith. Mrs. Broome was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church since 1958, a member of the Dorcus Sunday School Class, adult choir member, & member of the senior “Joy Club.

Mrs. Patsy Ruth Jarrett, age 76, of LaFayette, GA, died Friday, February 13, 2015, at Pruitt Healthcare in LaFayette, GA.

Mrs. Jarrett was born March 20, 1938, in Menlo, GA, daughter of the late Clifford Patton Forrest and Mattie Bell Ricket Forrest.  She was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Franklin Bartlett, second husband, Bill Jarrett; sisters, Virginia Shadrick, Ruby Trammell, brother, James Forrest, great-great grandchildren, Tanner Dennison, and Coleton Wallace.

Mrs. Jarrett is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William E. & Jackie Bartlett, daughters and son-in-law, Judy Hines, Sherry & Rodney Liles, brother and sister-in-law, Clifford & Lillie Mae Forrest, sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Sue & James Singley, Nanny Lou & James Pope,  grandchildren, Serena Asher, Patricia Burkett, Josh Hines, Christy Houge, Andrew Bartlett, Lori Richards, 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
