Nellie Lucille Everett obit

Mrs. Nellie Lucille Everett, age 66 of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Everett was born October 20, 1943 in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late James Thomas Starkey and Lula Mae Potts Starkey. Mrs. Everett was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her brothers, Steven Starkey, Doyle Starkey, and Clarence Starkey, sisters, Ailene Hill, and Louise Stinson.

Mrs. Everett is survived by her husband, John Terry Everett, Sons and Daughters-in-law, John W. and Tracy Everett, and Thomas W. and Lyn Everett, brother, Roy J. Starkey, grandchildren, Meagan Everett, Savannah Everett, Mason Everett, Adam Everett, and Abby Everett. Funeral Services for Mrs. Everett will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matt Holbrooks, David Holbrooks, B.J. McGraw, Keith Morris, Craig Morris, and Evan Webb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephanie Anderson Willingham, Jeremy Anderson, Adam Everett, Justin Black, and the Staff of the Summerville Harbin Dialysis Center. Mrs. Everett will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday.

 

Arthur Bernice “Curly” Scoggins obit

Mr. Arthur Bernice "Curly" Scoggins, age 82 of East Armuchee Rd, Summerville, GA.  passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Scoggins was born June 4, 1927 to the late Arthur Eugene and Grace Smith Scoggins.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Annie Mae Scoggins; brother, Calvin Scoggins, Bill Scoggins, Delaney Scoggins, Howard Scoggins, Harold Scoggins, and Jessie Ralph Scoggins; Sister, Julie Mae Buice.

Mr. Scoggins was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation as an Inspector in the Packing Dept. and was a member of the Subligna Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Charlene Sumner Scoggins of Subligna, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Harold Callan of Subligna, GA; GrandsonGene Callan and Corey Callan of Subligna, Ga and Delvin Crider and Casey Crider of Trion, GA; granddaughter, Cassie Crider of Trion, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Subligna Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Bishop and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow in Sublinga Cemetary.

Mr. Scoggins will lie-in-state, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm.  Mr. Scoggins will also lie-in-state, Thursday, May 13,2010 at the Sublinga Baptist Church from 1:00pm until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Corey Callan, Gene Callan, Tony Scoggins, Dale Scoggins, Kevin Scoggins, Johnny Scoggins, and Donnie Scoggins.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Senoir Citizens of Sublinga Baptist Church.

Mrs. Grace Marie Rounsaville Zayas Obit.

Mrs. Grace Marie (Gracie) Rounsaville Zayas, age 71, of Summerville, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Zayas was born in Summerville, Georgia on December 7, 1938, daughter of the late Clifford and Louise Rounsaville. She was a 1956 graduate of Chattooga High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from Spellman College in Atlanta in 1960. Mrs. Zayas was an accomplished art teacher and she gave pleasure to many students that had artistic abilities. At an early age, she joined and attended the New Bethel Baptist Church, and in 2004, she started attending and joined West Fifth Street Church of Christ.

Mrs. Zayas is survived by her daughters, Briseis (Cameron) McDaniel, Eton, NC; Alicia Zayas, Jonesboro, GA; Carmen Zayas, Atlanta; Andrea Zayas-Trice, Summerville; and NIki Zayas, Marietta; siblings, Cicero “Sonny” Rounsaville; Brenda Burks, and Sharon(Paul) Goodwin; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; a nephew, and a number of nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Beatrice Brown Obit.

MRS. BEATRICE BROWN, age 75, of Williams Street-Lyerly, Georgia passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010, at her residence. Born in Floyd County, Georgia on December 21, 1934 she was a daughter of the late James Clifford Mitchell and Mildred Carr Mitchell who survives. She was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and retired from the tufting department of Bigelow-Sanford.

Surviving are husband-Robert J. Brown; mother-Mildred Mitchell of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Stacey & Kristy Brown of Lyerly; grandchildren-Kendra Brown, Daniel Brown, Jeremiah Brown, and Zoie Brown; great grandson-Jax Brown; sisters-Sue Barosay, Ann Broyles, and Naomi Barnes all of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastors Howard Odum, Jimmy Bailey, and Frank McCrickard officiating, interment in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Mr. Roy Lee Estes, age 71, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday May 8, 2009, at his residence. Mr Estes was born Oct. 23, 1938, in Ft. Payne, AL, the son of the late Walter LeRoy and Minnie Beard Estes. Before retiring he worked for Continenal Inn in Richardson, TX. Survivors include his children, Tammy Patterson, and Roy Lee Estes, sisters, Maxine Dutton, Francis Cochran, Judy Tucker, grandchild, Joshua Lee Estes.

At his request he was cremated.

Mrs. Barbara S. Herod Obituary

MRS. BARBARA S. HEROD, age 68, of Wildlife Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday (May 7, 2010) morning in a Rome hospital. Mrs. Herod was born in Gaylesville, Alabama on October 15, 1941 to the late Cecil Cleveland Battles and Gertha Lee Gilbert Battles who survives. Baptist by Faith She was in retail sales for many years. She was preceded in death by a brother the late Charles Battles.

Surviving are husband-Donnie Herod; mother-Gertha Lee Battles; sons and spouses, Eddie & Robin Herod of Summerville and Richie & Maggie Herod of Rock Springs, GA.; sisters-Frances Boggs of Shadydale, GA., Thelma Day of Lexington, GA., Mary Jo Pate and Katie Lawhorn both of Butler, GA.; brothers-Buddy Battles of Butler, GA. and Larry Battles of Ranger, GA.; grandchildren-Ethan Herod, Dylan Herod, and Hannah Parrish; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Sunday (May 9th) at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Ken Westmoreland officiating; there will be no visitation. The Family request no food and no flowers and suggest contributions to Gideons International or the Church of your choice.

Mr. Clarence Luzon Lewis, Jr, age 67, of Trion, GA died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Lewis was born September 8, 1942 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Milton Clarence and Velma Louise Rutledge Lewis. He was retired from Mohawk Industries. Mr. Lewis was a member of the Trion Church Of God. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, and carpentry. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Tipton Lewis.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Lewis; daughter, Pam Bynum, Trion, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Troy & Phyllis Lewis, Gaylesville, AL, Stanley Lewis and Mark Lewis, both of Trion, GA, and Sammy & Kimberly Lewis, Calhoun, GA; brother, Talmadge Huvon Lewis, Berryton, GA; grandchildren, Matt Lewis, Dana Brown, Anthony Lewis, Bryan Lewis, Cassidy Bynum, Lee Lewis, Justin Lewis, and Nathan Lewis; and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mr. Lewis will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Chastain officiating.

Mr. Larry Kenneth Durham, age 64 of Hwy 100 Summerville passed away on Monday at Redmond Reginal Medical Center.  He was born on July 9th, 1945 in Trion to the late John  Mark and Edith Louise Madden Durham…He was retired and had been Minister of Music for Sherwood Forrest Baptist Church for 22 years, and was a member and Minister of Music for the Enon Baptist Church in Shannon, GA.   he had served as Chattooga County Tax Commissioner and had been a member of the Chattooga County School Board…Mr. Durham is survived by his wife, Martha Lynn Floyd Durham of Summerville, son and daughter in law, David Todd and Teresa Durham of Lyerly, daughter and son in law,  Trina and Chad Hunt of Crawford, Ga. and son Kenneth Dewayne Durham of Iraq, grandchildren, jonathan and Samantha Durham, Courtney McCullough, and Elliot Hunt, sister and brother in law, Linda and Ben Johnson of Summerville.  Funeral service will be Thursday at 11AM from the chapel of Erwin -Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Talmadge Barnes and Dr. Bill Dempsey officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery..
