Runyan Obit

MR. BOB RUNYAN, age 77, of Givens Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (October 25, 2009) morning in a LaFayette health care. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee He was born to the late Roscoe and Hassie Murphy Runyan on January 1, 1932. Mr. Runyan was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U. S. Navy and retired from the carding department of Harriett-Henderson Mill. He was preceded in death by his wife the late Hazel Idell Monroe Runyan on January 3, 2009.

Surviving are daughter-Debra Ponder of Summerville; step son-Rodger Swanson of Fyffe, Alabama; grandchildren-Dustin & Elizabeth Ponder, Steven Swanson, Chris Swanson, and Marsha Swanson; 6 Great Grandchildren; sister-Jeanette Thomas of Chattanooga, TN.; Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (October 28th) at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Odom officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Honorary Pallbearers Nurses & Staff of Heritage Health Care of LaFayette. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Carter obit

Mr. Louis Andrew Carter, age 80 of West Hall Valley Road in Trion passed away Thursday in Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Carter was born in Floyd County on April 16, 1929..

Mr. Carter was retired from Northwest Regional Hospital after 34 years of service and was a member of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church and the McDonald’s breakfast Club.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother James and Rosa Callie Neal Carter, brothers Dennis Heulett, Ewell , Ralph and Odell Carter, Sisters Lela Belle Young and Bessie Carter. 

He is survived by his wife Rozella, Rose Lee Howell Carter of Trion, daughter, Patricia Stillwell of Guntersville, son Gregory Carter of Rome and Chris Ray of Rome, brother B.W. Carter of Chickamauga, sisters Mary Frances Dutton of Shannon and Betty Sue Hayes of Calhoun, grandchildren Melissa Hooper, Amanda Carter, Cassie Cowart , Darryl Hunter, Aaron Stillwell, Ashton Ray and Caroline Ray, 7 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews also survive..

Funeral service will Saturday October 24th at 2PM from the chapel of Erwin Petitt Funeral Home , internment will be in the West Hill Cemetary.  Mr. Carter will lie in state Friday at the Erwin Pettit Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM.

Miss Lois Lee Housch

Miss Lois Lee Housch, age 85, of Back Penn Road, Summerville, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Miss Housch was born December 6, 1923 in Chattooga County GA.  She was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation, a graduate of Summerville High School and Edmonson Business College.  Miss Housch was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church where she served as church organist and was a member of the Love Joy Circle.Miss Housch was preceded in death by her father and mother, John Archie and Grace Doster Housch; sisters, Zilpha Bankey and Ruby Packer; brothers, Ralph, Roy, Elbert and Doster Housch.Miss Housch is survived by a sister, Frances Housch of Summerville, GA and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Nell Housch of Tucker, GA; several nieces and nephews also survived.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11am from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Pierce, Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Mrs. Sarah Lucille Ragland

Mrs. Sarah Lucille Ragland, age 94, of Summerville, GA died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Ragland was born October 18, 1914 in Gaylesville, AL, the daughter of the late Arthur Carson Clowdis and Sallie Parks Clowdis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ragland was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ragland; sons, Donnie Ragland and Ronald Ragland. Mrs. Ragland is survived by a sister, Willie Sue (Billie) Fahlstrom; nieces, Sue Paris, Pam Lee, Suzanne Fahlstrom, Lisa Fahlstrom; and a nephew, Michael Lee. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm,  Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Greg King officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.

James F “Jamie” Harris, Jr.

Mr. James Franklin "Jamie" Harris, Jr., age 41, of Cloudland, GA died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Harris was born June 8, 1968 in Trion, GA, the son of James Franklin Harris, SR. and Bonnie Sue Key Harris. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Cloudland. Mr. Harris was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills as a Dye House Supervisor. He was an active member of the Tri-County Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He was a devoted father, loving brother, son, and uncle. Mr. Harris was an avid fisherman, hunter, and four wheeler enthusiast. He was a good friend to many. Survivors include his children, Devin Dodd, LaFayette, GA, Dylan Dodd, East Ridge, TN, Sara Lynn Harris, East Ridge, TN; parents, James Franklin Harris, Sr. and Bonnie Sue Key Harris, Cloudland, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet Harris and Dennis Hartline, Cloudland, GA, Jenny and Franklin Jones, Gaylesville, AL, Jill and Robby Neal, Cloudland, GA; nieces, Melody Gideon and Macy Neal, nephew, Bobby Neal. Mr. Richard Eugene, “Hound Dog” Hines

Mr. Richard Eugene, "Hound Dog",  Hines, age 52, of 422 Hill Street, Trion, GA, passed away Monday at Floyd Medical Center.  Mr. Hines was born January 10, 1957 in Chattooga County GA.  He was employed with Mount Vernon Mills, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church.

Mr. Hines was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Melton and Lillie Mae Davis Hines.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley Diane Gentry Hines of Trion, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby James, "B.J",  and Mary Hines  and Ricky Lee and Renee Hines, Trion, GA; grandson, Nathan James Hines of Trion, GA; sisters, Doris Hall and Pat Rich of Trion, GA; brothers, Buddy Hines of LaFayette, GA and Michael Hines of Summerville, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 until 8pm.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae "Dot" Cargle, age 80, of Little Sand Mtn., GA died Monday, October 12, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Cargle was born January 18, 1929 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the lateGordon Lee Reynolds and Lillian Tudor Reynolds. She was a homemaker and an avid craft maker.She loved to cook. Mr. Jeffery Neal "Little Jeff" Smith, age 40, of Lyerly, GA died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Jeffery was born November 14, 1969, the son of Neal Lance and Lois Marie Smith Lance. Jeffery attended LMCS Day Hab. He loved going for rides and being with his family. He never met a stranger and had a smile and "Howdy" for everyone. He attended the West Berryton Faith Temple. Mr. James Martin "Ted" Hendrix, age 66, of Summerville, GA died Monday, October 12, 2009 atRedmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hendrix was born February 15, 1943 in Trion, GA, the son of the late William RaymondHendrix and Edith Chastain Hendrix. He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills and was a memberof the Quarter Century Club. Mr. Hendrix was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.
