Mr. Jimmie Edward Phillips, Obit (M)

Mr. Jimmie Edward Phillips, age 85, of Menlo, GA, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his residence.Mr. Phillips was born April 16, 1938, in Trion, GA, son of the late Charlie Edward Phillips and Ethleen Rich Phillips.  He was a member of Teloga Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  He was also previously employed with the Chattooga County Sanitation Department.  Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the United States Army and was an avid farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Wooten; and 5 grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Dorthene Brown Phillips; sons, Eddie (Ginger) Phillips, Rickey (Lisa) Phillips; daughters, Karen (Robert) Garrett, Barbie (Tommy) Strawn, and Sandy Phillips; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Teloga Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Weaver and Rev. Ives Harris officiating.  Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Craig Garrett, Brian Garrett, Patrick Strawn, Timothy Garrett, Lawson Garrett, Michael Lough, and Mason Lough.  Honorary pallbearers will be Keith James, Kolby Smith, Ryan Wilson, and Little Kolby Smith.Mr. Phillips will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, November 25, 2023.  He will also lie in state at Teloga Baptist Church from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Mrs. Joyce Laquita Haygood, Obit (ER)

Mrs. Joyce Laquita Haygood, ago 82 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at her residence. She was born April, 24, 1941, daughter of the late L. D. and Frances Armstrong Barksdale. She was employed as a Nursing Aid for Oakview Nursing and Rehab and a member of Berryton Bible Mission. In addition to her parents, was preceded in death by husband, the late John Haygood, Jr. and son, the late Michael Haygood.

Surviving are her daughters, Tina Pickle and Tyra Bennett; sons, Gerald Haygood, Keith Haygood and Scott Haygood; sister, Sandra Ivey; brother, Rev. Charles Barksdale; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Reynolds and Rev. Nelson Lee Wilson, Obit (ER)

MR. NELSON LEE WILSON, age 73, passed away Saturday evening, November 18, 2023, in a Chattanooga Hospital.

He was born to Warner Edwin and Edith Nancy Wales Wilson on July 9, 1950 at Dr. Lawrence’s Clinic in Menlo, Georgia. He was named after both his Grandfathers. He always said he had a wonderful childhood growing up in the Menlo area. Mr. Wilson was very artistic, with a talent for music and artwork. He really loved to sing every chance available. Nelson met Brenda on a Sunday, when he went to her church to visit. The lasting memory of him working his way down to the front and Brenda looking over her songbook at him, was reminisced quite often. It was love at first sight and they married in that church on July 15, 1972 and celebrated a wonderful and happy 51 years together. They had a big and loving family and all the kids loved him. He was always doing fun things with them, taking them to the park, pool, & etc. He was always very good at telling jokes; his many nieces and nephews remember him being so much fun. Nelson served eight years in the Army Reserves with the 209th Communications Unit. He worked a short time with Double A Radio in Cedartown, GA. He started with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph in 1972; eventually retired from the State of Georgia Department of Public Safety, where he worked as license examiner, GA. State Patrol dispatcher, and weight station examiner. He was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, the late Nancy Wilson Smith, brother-in-law Bobby McDaniel, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe B. and Martha Gaines, grandsons, Brandon and Preston Adams, great granddaughter, Jocelyn Phibbs and niece, Amber McDaniel.

Survived by loving Wife, Brenda Gaines Wilson; daughters and spouses, Cynthia and Nick Swords and April and Derek Adams; grandchildren Kayla (Lance), Caitlin (Jamison), Aleigha, and Scottie Satterfield, and Dylan and Levi Adams; great grandchildren, Lilah Gazaway, Parker and Paxton Phibbs; sister, Sheryl Wilson McDaniel; brother, Edwin and Martha Wilson; brother-in-law, Lawrence Smith; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 26th, at 2:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Helton and Rev. Earline Harris, Obit (C)

Mrs. Earline Harris, age 89 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 in a Rome Hospital.

Mrs. Harris was born in Lafayette, Georgia on June 23, 1934, daughter of the late Earl Campbell and Lucille Swafford Campbell. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from the Trion City School System where she worked as the Secretary to the Superintendent. Mrs. Harris enjoyed crocheting, reading and traveling, especially when those travels took her to the beach. She loved watching all birds from her window, but her favorite birds were her hummingbirds.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harris; brother, Melvin Campbell; son-in-law, James Martin; brother-in-law, Pete Scott and a niece, Phyllis Scott.

Mrs. Harris is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Donna Martin, Renee Carmon and Alicia and Rhett Whitehead; son, Greg Harris; twin sister, Montine Scott; grandson and his wife, Cody and Rachel Carmon; great grandson, Henry Carmon; nephew, Dewayne Scott; and a number of additional nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Harris will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Casey Bramlett officiating.

There will be no formal visitation and those attending the graveside service Wednesday are asked to meet at the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Mr. James Lamar Moon, age 74 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Mr. Moon was born in Summerville, Georgia on June 21, 1949, son of the late James Randolph “Doc” Moon and Mozelle Love Taylor. He was retired from Taylor Construction, enjoyed playing pool, crafting and making things out of matchsticks and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Moon was preceded in death by sisters, Juanita Blackmon and Margaret “Tooter” Timms.

Mr. Moon is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Rebekah Moon and Issac Pena; daughters, Teresa Bearden, Desiree Pena and Summer Moon; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Taylor; sisters, Brenda, Paulette and Charlotte; mothers of his children, Sherry Moon nad Margaret Ann Moon; grandchildren, Melanie Bearden, Gregory Bearden, Miranda Bearden, Karlie Moon, Ethan Moon, Paisly Pena and Wyatt McGuire; great grandchildren, Noah Nelson, Liam Younce, Londyn Younce and Kaysleigh Bearden; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Moon will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Charles Franklin Clements age 87 of Trion, GA passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 at a Rome, GA hospital.

Mr. Clements was born March 22, 1936 in Summerville, GA to the late Frank and Dorothy Willingham Clements. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and spending time with his family.

Along with his parents Mr. Clements is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Stallings Clements.

Survivors include his children and step-children, Stan (Elaine) Clements, Ed (Joyce) Williams, and Wanda (Billy) Payne; sister, Charlotte Stowe; grandchildren, JoAnna (Ched) Jackson, Scott (Misty) Clements, Lana (Brian) Moseley, and Emily Clements; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mr. Clements will be held at 2:00 Monday, November 20 at Greenhills Memory gardens with Minister Josh Daniel officiating. Pallbearers will be Alan Lonas, Scott Clements, Ched Jackson, Randy Dover, Brian Moseley, David Hardy, and Phil Hall

Mrs. Peggy Jo Wallace, age 70 of Cedar Bluff, Alabama passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Wallace was born in Rash, Alabama on October 25, 1953, daughter of the late Willie Edward Arnold, Sr. and Lula Candace Guinn Arnold. She attended the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center and was a retired Paramedic with the Chattooga County EMS. Mrs. Wallace was an avid Alabama Football Fan and loved to Treasure Hunt on the beach, looking or shells, shark’s teeth and ocean glass. She enjoyed fishing and loved horses, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Dooley; a brother, Willie Edward “Eddie” Arnold, Jr.; and a great granddaughter, Joselyn Danielle Phibbs.

Mrs. Wallace is survived by her husband, Lonnie Lee Wallace; sons and daughter-in-law, Shannon Murphy, and Kevin and Sha Wallace; daughter and son-in-law, Angel and Harvey Fitzgerald; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Hugh Lively; grandchildren, Danielle Phibbs, Jameson(Caitlin) Phibbs, Justin Wallace, Katelyn(Brice) Wallace, Kayla(Corey) Allen, Dustin(Abby) Fitzgerald, Mason Wallace and Derek(Kecia) Fitzgerald; 19 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

MR. GREGORY LEE VAUGHN – Age 68, of Summerville, Georgia passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born June 28, 1955 to his late parents, father Charles Augusta and mother Jimmie Lee Long Vaughn, Sr. Greg was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and for many years he was employed for the Chattooga School System as a Custodian at Summerville Middle School.

He is survived by four sisters, Burnetta (Charles) Pender, Elaine Wiggins, Denise Brown all of Summerville, GA, and Gwinnetta (Orange, Jr.) Evans of LaGrange, Georgia; two brothers, Charles A. (Madonna) Vaughn, Jr. of Deltona, Florida and Vincent (Christy) Madden of Chickamauga, Georgia; uncle, Cleveland L. (Annie) Vaughn of Summerville, GA; brother-in-law, Larry Allen of Summerville, GA; devoted niece and caregiver, Nakia Brown; dear friends, Dan Mosteller, Linda Wooten, and Susan Reese; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Homegoing Service will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 2:00 P. M. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 281 Georgia Ave, Summerville, GA 30747, with Pastor Kevin Roach, Eulogist.

MR. PATRICK LEBRON EVANS, SR. – born September 3, 1969, in Rome, Georgia to Everett Evans and the late Carolyn Printup. He departed this earthly life for his heavenly home Thursday, November 9, 2023.

Patrick was educated in the Chattooga County School System and graduated from Chattooga High School in 1987. He was employed by HON. Patrick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved watching sports, especially the Baltimore Ravens, but was most excited when he was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

George Glenn Patterson, Obit (C)

Mr. George Glenn Patterson, age 82 of Gaylesville, Alabama passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at a Rome Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Patterson was born in Trion, Georgia on December 13, 1941, son of the late Horace Glenn Patterson and Maxine Phillips Patterson. He was a veteran of the United States Marines Corps, attended the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center, and prior to retirement, was employed with General Electric. Following his retirement, Mr. Patterson worked with Dan’s Bounty Table and worked part time with the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home. He loved being outdoors, gardening and hunting, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by a brother, Hall Patterson, brothers in law; Glenn E Hughes, Wayne Miller, and Roy Cox.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Patterson; Daughter: Nicole Patterson; sister, Elaine Miller; Grandchildren: Autumn Patterson, Gracie Patterson, John Patterson, Hunter(Levi)Robinson, Hensleigh(Seth)Cox; Great Grandchildren: Cadince, Kailyn, Addison, and Dillon Green; Brothers/Sisters in Law: Dan (Deborah) Hughes, Harold (Joan) Hughes, Janie (Larry) Kellett, Peggy Cox, and Gail Hughes; Special Nieces: Allyson Crump, Dana Hughes, and Hayden Hughes; Special Great Nephews: Daniel T.
