Mrs. Marjorie McElheney Woodard Complete Obit (M)

Mrs. Marjorie McElheney  Woodard, age 101, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday January 23, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Woodard was born Nov. 4, 1913,  in Hillsboro, GA, the daughter of the late M.E. and Bessie Tyler McElheney.  She was a member of the Summerville First United Methodist Church, and served as a Sunday School Teacher of the adult Sunday School Class,  member of  the Eastern Star, Summerville Garden Club, B.P.W. , P.T.A., retired Teacher Association, former  owners and operators of the Piggly Wigglys in Trion, Summerville, and Lyerly.  She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Woodard, 2 sisters, Doris Garman, Dorothy Cragg, son-in-law, James Griffin Sanders, grandson, Benjamin Sanders.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Woodard Sanders, Rome, GA,  sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Becky Woodard, Rome, GA, and Mike and Brenda Woodard of Menlo, GA, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Marjorie M. Woodard.

 

Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday January 25, 2015 from the Summerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Pinson and Rev. Larry Reynolds officiating with interment in the Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers, Timothy Sanders, Jacob Woodard, Tod Dawson, Andy Jones, Greg Franklin, Braxton Ballard, Scott Ballard, Barry Bentley.  Honorary pallbearers, Gordon Little, Sandra Black, Darlene Lanier, Gary McConnell, Jack & Gail Allen, Carlton & Carol Andrews, Barbara Leath, Tom McCurdy, Tom Self, Butch Self, Gene Rackley, Henry Barrow, Kay Bennett, Ralph Wright, Alice Crouch, Robert Floyd and they are asked to assemble at the church Sunday at 2:45 p.m. Mrs. Woodard will be in state at the Summerville First United Methodist Church Sunday January 25, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Nancy Wingate Garnett Obit (M)

Mrs. Nancy Wingate Garnett, age 75, of Culloden, GA,  passed away Saturday January 24, 2015, in Pine  Point Hospice in Macon, GA.

She was born on October 17, 1939 in Lexington, Missouri. The daughter of the late Herbert Walter and Alece Shelby Wingate of Lexington, Missouri.  Mrs. Garnett was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summerville.   She was preceded in death by her husband the late Charles Milton Garnett of Summerville, GA to whom she was married  for 44 years.

Survivors include a  son and daughter-in-law, Charles Neal and Amanda  Garnett of Culloden, Georgia. Nancy Garnett has three granddaughters Lily Elizabeth (19), Emily Anne (18), and Mary Abigail  (16) all of Culloden, GA. Nancy is also survived by her brother Kent Shelby Wingate of Higginsville, Missouri. And a host of nieces and nephews , Vicki (Galen) Church, Kim Goodlove (Duane),, and Michael Wingate.

Funeral  service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 27, 2015 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Hunter officiating with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Rome, GA.

Mrs. Garnett will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday January 26, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Marjorie M. Woodard, age 101, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday January 23, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Woodard and her husband J.B.  was the former  owners and operators of the Piggly Wiggly Stores  in Trion, Summerville, and Lyerly. 

Survivors include her children, Virginia Sanders, Rome, GA, Jim Woodard, Rome, GA, and Mike Woodard of Menlo, GA, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other relatives survive Mrs. Marjorie M. Woodard.

Mr. Jonathan Michael Shore Obit (ER)

MR. JONATHAN SHORE, age 17, of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday night in a Rome hospital following a sudden attack. Born on January 7, 1998 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, to His mother, Sarah Shore, of Trion, who survives. He was a member of the Highway #27 South church of Christ, in LaFayette, attended Trion High School and was a member of the Trion High School Band.

Surviving besides His mother are grandparents, Jay and Ellie Shore of Trion; sisters, Mary Louise Shore of Trion and Taylor Hutchins of Summerville; uncles and aunts, John Bohannon of Atlanta, Casey and Hager Bohannon of Michigan, and Mark and Missy Hogin of Summerville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 27th, at 1:00 P. M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers David Curtis, Mark Hogan, and Hugh Glaze officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Maxine Reynolds Lee Obit (C)

Mrs. Maxine Reynolds Lee, age 82 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Lee was born in Summerville, GA on August 1, 1932, daughter of the late Lon Reynolds and Alice Ragland Reynolds. She was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church and was employed with Best Manufacturing before her retirement. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lee; a brother, Claude “Bud” Reynolds and a sister, Ruby LeCroy.

Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband, Billie Joe Lee; son and daughter-in-law, Frankie “Lightnin” and Debbie Lee; a daughter, Janet Lee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Hilda Reynolds, Cecil and June Reynolds, Leric and Juanita Reynolds, Joe and Joyce Reynolds and Raymond Reynolds; two grandchildren, Justin Lee and Stephanie Lee and her fiancé Jessie Cavin; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lee will held Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Kelley and Bro. Joel Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jeff Reynolds, Ken Reynolds, Andrew Daniel, Bradley Lee, Kevin Lee and Bryn Lee. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Four Mile Baptist Church.

Mr. Walter James Dorsey Obit (Willis)

MR. WALTER JAMES DORSEY- AGE 82, Of Lithonia, Georgia passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at DeKalb Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1932 in Rockmart, Polk County, Georgia to the late Walter Glen Dorsey and Mary Gibbons Dorsey. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Georgia. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Fort Valley State College, and Master of Science Degrees from Texas A&M and Clemson Universities. After college, Mr. Dorsey served in the U. S. Air Force stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Montgomery, Alabama. He began his career with the USDA in the early 1960s and retired in the late 1900s after a productive and rewarding career. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel all across the United States and abroad. He was last employed with the United States Department of Agriculture.  He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Glen and Mary Dorsey, first wife, Catherine Dorsey Strickland; brother, Charles William Dorsey; sisters, Mary Pearl Dorsey and Mozell Dorsey Sebastian.

 

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Ferrell Bowers Dorsey; sons, Philbrick R. Mrs. Amy Jo Wilbanks Thomas, age 85 of Trion, GA passed away

Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at her residence.  Mrs. Thomas was born

June 7, 1929 in Trion, GA.  She enjoyed being with her family.  She

           loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-

great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed cooking big meals for her

family and talking to friends.  Mrs. Thomas was a member of the

Pleasant Grove Church of Christ.

   Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Otra

and Lula Mae Strickland Wilbanks; great grandchild, Jackson Cole

 Hames Thomas; and brother, J. D. Wilbanks.

   Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack Thomas;

sons and daughter-in-laws, Jackie and Kay Thomas, Arlen and Anna

Thomas, and Gary Thomas; daughter, Jo Ann Clements; brother,

Bobby Wilbanks; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren,

and three great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Christine B. Lively Owens Obit (M)

Mrs. Christine B. Lively Owens, age 86, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday,

January 20, 2015, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Owens was born November 30, 1928 in Henegar, AL, the daughter of the

late Odes Brooks and Lula James Brooks.  She was retired from Mt. Vernon

Mills.  Mrs. Owens was a member of the East Trion Church of God and the

Quarter Century Club.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by

her first husband, Emmett J. Lively; second husband, Walter Owens; sister,

Ida Mae Brooks Parton; brothers, Odes Doffis Brooks and Clarence Eugene

Brooks; and a special friend, Grace Blackmon.

 

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Becky Lively,

and Sammy Lively and Tina Gray; brother, Lester R. Brooks; sisters,

Arlene Crabtree, Betty J. Duckett, and Sonni Brooks; special sister, Monnie Stoker; grandchildren, James Brown, Chris and Laura Lively, and Christy Lively; great grandchildren, Jaden Lively, Zoei Brown, Roman Lively, Madison Pharr, Madalyn Hale, and Wyatt Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. EDDIE WAITS “PEE WEE” TINNEY, age 84, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, in a Rome hospital. A native of Polk County, Georgia , She was born on June 26, 1930, a daughter of the late George- Stanley and Effie Lavada Coker Waits. Mrs. Tinney, for many years, was a nurse at the Chattooga County Hospital and a member of New Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Johnny Tinney, and siblings Ruth Waits Ponder Howell, Edythe Earnestine Waits McGraw, Faye Norene Waits Ozment, Lois Carol Waits Baker, Kelsey Waits, Harold Waits, and Lodema Waits.

Surviving are brother, Dudley Waits of Rockmart; a special Niece, Vivian Price; several other Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21st, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Sanford Deberry and Rev. Mike Odom officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery.
