MISS MARGARET FRANCES OWENS, 92, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday in a Rome nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on February 25, 1920 to the late Parks and Elsie Ward Owens. Miss Owens was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired knitting mill hand and school lunchroom service. She was preceded in death by sisters-Agnes Rosser and Myrtle Presley, niece-Virginia Johnston, nephews-Lamar Rosser & Vernon Rosser, and great nephew-Geoff Rosser.

Surviving are niece -Brenda (Windle) Bishop of Kingston; nephew-Winston (Sharon) Pressley of Albany; great niece-Jan (Mark) Sams of Lindale, Lauren Denning of Roswell, Patricia Pressley of Albany; great nephew-Alan (Candie) Rosser of Heflin, AL, Walter Pressley of Birmingham, AL; 1 great great niece; 3 great great nephews; 1 great great great niece; 3 great great great nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Summey and Dr. Paul Mason officiating, interment in Little Sand Mt. Cemetery. MRS. DOROTHY ANN “DOT” JOHNSON, age 73, of Dickeyville Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital. She was born in Trion, Georgia on August 28, 1938, a daughter of the late John Wesley Kitchens and Gladys Sitton Kitchens Martin. Mrs. Johnson was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church, a long established hair dresser, and had served on the Chattooga County School Board of Eduaction for 20 plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Tom Johnson and brother, the late Bill Kitchens. Surviving are daughters and spouse-Pamela Guthrie of Sarasota, FL. and Amy & Jonathan Parker of Calhoun; son and spouse-Jimmy & Jill Nicholson of Summerville; step children-Kati Peck of Knoxville, TN., Sandra Bockley and Randy Johnson of Atlanta; grandchildren-Sarah Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Brandon Garner, Ashley Garner, Alechia Garner, Madison Bockley, Molly Bockley, Alex Johnson, Nicole’ Johnson, and Anna Caroline Parker; great granddaughter-Molly Nicholson; several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Gerald Davis Dempsey, age 73, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Dempsey was born in Trion, Georgia on December 18, 1938, son of the late G.D. “Datch” Dempsey and Annie Ruth Lawson Dempsey. He was a member of the Oakhill United Methodist Church in Lyerly, Georgia and prior to retirement, worked at Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill, as a Deputy with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a truck driver, and heavy equipment contractor.

Mr. Dempsey is survived by his wife, JoAnn Parker Dempsey; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Gary Hardeman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Lee Majors and O’Bera and Melvin Keen; grandchildren, Brooke and Chris Jarrett, Marc Hardeman; great grandson, Reed Jarrett; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dempsey will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Gillespie, Rev. Doyle Waters, Dr. Kenneth Summey and Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Doug Moseley, Ronnie Winters, Winston Chadwick, Gary McConnell, Jon Payne, Jack Ledford, Jason Winters, Johnny Bass and Joe Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackson Powell, the Congregation of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and all personal friends.

Mr. Dempsey will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

MRS. MARY DORIS HENDERSON, age 78, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at her residence. A native of Cobb County, Georgia She was born to the late Clayton and Villa Castile Brown on January 12, 1934. Mrs. Henderson was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church, retired from Bigelow-Sanford Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Olin Curtis Henderson, Jr. and a son the late Wayne Henderson.

Funeral will be held Saturday, June 23rd, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. David Huggins officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Mr. John William “J. W.” Greenwood, age 84, of Trion, GA passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Greenwood was born in Trion, Georgia on September 6, 1927, son of the late Robert Emmett Greenwood and Ella Cordelia Cannon Greenwood. He was a 1945 Graduate of Trion High School, where he lettered in Football, Baseball and Basketball, and was a 1953 graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Greenwood was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, where he was deacon, and taught the Adult Men’s SS Class. He was a member of the Trion Golf and Fishing Club. Prior to his retirement, he was the athletic director at the Trion Community Center, a Physical Education teacher and coach in the Trion School System, where he coached High School Baseball, Tennis, Golf and Football, as well as the Trion Recreation department football teams. Mr. Greenwood was the director of the Trion Recreation Department for 21 years, formed the Trion Alumni Association, helped form the Trion 50 Yard Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth “Beta” Hayes Greenwood; and two sisters, Grace Love and Robbie Camp.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Donna Greenwood; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Stephen Lanier; grandchildren, Drew Lanier, Laci Lanier, and Grace Greenwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Woods and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Tripp, Lester Griffitt, Albert Palmour, and Dwight Hardin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons and Men’s Sunday School Class, Trion Alumni, Tommy Bean, Andy Bean, Eddie Shireman, Alex Baker, Dennis Durham, Jerry Archer, Tate Giles and Bill Kinzy.

Mrs. Christine Ray Strange, age 71, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday at her residence. Mrs. Strange was born April 4, 1941, in Owensboro, KY, the daughter of the late Jernon and Blanch Patterson Ray. She was retired from Roper Corp, and preceded in death by a son, George V. Stepp, step-son, Rickey Strange.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Strange, son,Curtis “Butch” Austin, daughters, Kathie Landers, Christine Goldwater, sisters, Emma Rathbun, Martine Bogle, grandchildren, Kevin Austin, Scott Austin, Anthony Landers, Zackery Stepp, Sara Stepp, Shannon Landers, Christa Goldwater, Jeni Perrien, great-grandchildren, Blake Austin, Haley Austin, Rhianna Perrien, Thomas Perrien. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June19, 2012, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. Doyle Kelley officiating with interment in the Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Strange will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Tuesday.
