Mrs. Maudie Mitchell Obit

MRS. MAUDIE MITCHELL, age 70 , of Tucker Trail-Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday (December 16, 2009) at her residence. A native Chattooga Countian She was born to the late Claude and Pearl Shaver Willingham on May 4, 1939. Mrs. Mitchel was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Donna Tucker and a sister, the late Nell McGuire.  Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill.

Surviving are husband, Charles Mitchell; daughter, Shirley Waters of Rome; son-and daughter-in-law-Kenneth N. and Renita Tucker of Summerville; step daughter, Debbie Whaley of Summerville; sisters, Faye Tucker of Summerville and Farice Cavin of Chesterfield, AL.; brothers-Bud Willingham of Carrollton, Bob Willingham of Bryant, AL., and George Willingham of Summerville; grandchildren, Michelle Waters-Baty , Adam Waters, Kenneth Tucker, and Donavon Whaley; great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Baty; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday (December 18th) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Nat Phillips officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers-Adam Waters, Kenneth Tucker, Donavon Whaley, Steve Tucker Joey Tucker, and Jerry Hartline. The Family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

Ms. Jacqueline Faith Powell Cochran, age 47, of Rome, GA, passed away Sunday December
13, 2009, at her residence.
Ms. Cochran was born March 23, 1962, in Trion, GA, the daughter of late Howard and Suda
Locklear Powell, she was a Crew Leader with Mohawk.
Survivors incude her children, Taft & Carrie Cochran, Trion, GA, Abby & Randall Parker,
Lafayette, GA, step-son, Zack Highfield, long time companion, Tim Highfield, brothers, Heath
Hampton, Bobby Bryant, Daniel Moses, sisters, Sylvia & J.W. Austin, Tammia Drake,
grandchildren, Austin Cochran, Justin Broyles, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 15, 2009 from the Mason Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Robert Patterson, Rev. Delbert Young officaiting with interment in the West

Mr. Glenn Earl Keith

Mr. Glen Earl Keith, age 84, of Longwood, FL, formerly of Chattooga County GA, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Casselberry, FL.  Mr. Keith was born January 3, 1925 in Valley Head, AL to the late William Wallace Keith and Margaret Mary Dobbs Keith.

Mr. Keith was retired from Lockheed in Marietta, GA and was a member of the Mars Task Force with Merrill as well as in many other locations in his Army’s service.

Mr. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Ward Keith; father and mother, William Wallace Keith and Margaret Mae Dobbs Keith; great-grandson, Joseph Mitchell; brothers, Clyde Keith, Seldon Keith and Melvin Keith.

The survivors are his daughter, Charlotte V. Salveson of Longwood, FL; granddaughters, Lisa Schwartz and Tony Willingham; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruby Virginia Cordle of Summerville, GA; brothers, William Wallace, "W.J." Keith of Summerville, GA, William Boyce Keith of LaFayette, GA, Billy Jack Keith of Ider, IL, Troy Lee Keith of LaFayette, GA and Roger Dale Keith.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 2pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Buster Fox officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhill Memory Gardens.

Mr. Keith will lie-in-state Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Burch, Tanner Burch, Steve Keith, Kelly Keith, Corey Rhudy and Chad Hogue.

Mr. Robert Foy Blackmon

Mr. Robert Foy Blackmon, age 85, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Blackmon was born April 16, 1924 in Chattooga County, GA, the son of the late Charlieand Fannie Mae Bryson Blackmon. He was retired from the United States Army, having served during WWII. He had worked at Mt. Vernon Mills in the spinning department. Mr. Blackmon was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Blackmon; son, Sammy Blackmon; daughter, Joan Meadows; grandchildren, Zetta Thompson, Tommy Stoner, Jody Stoner, Andy Campbell, Karen Chadwick,Kelli George, Ty Ledford, Jacob Blackmon and Lisa Dobson; and 14 Great Grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5.

 Active pallbearers will be Jody Stoner, Tommy Stoner, Jacob Blackmon, Joe Trammell, Jerry Deering and Wayne Green. Mr. Dennis A. Johnson, age 70, of Menlo, GA, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Johnson was born May 30, 1939, in Blakely County Georgia, son of the late Otis and Myrtice Lee Johnson. He was self  employed in Real Estate Sales and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Johnson; daughter, Tracy Johnson and her fiance, William McKenzie; brother, Wayne Johnson; sisters, Karen Lindsey, Judy Johnson and Jean Flounders; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 15, 2009, in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Nelson officiating.

Mrs. Mary Jo White

MRS. MARY JO WHITE, age 71, of Maddox Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday morning at her residence following a brief illness. A native Chattooga countian She was born to the late William and Mae Wilder Harris on November 10, 1938. Mrs. White was retired retail sales manager and was preceded in death by her first husband the late L. M. Kirby.

Surviving are husband-Charles White; daughters, Mary Fowler and Phyllis Elrod both of Lyerly and Sandy Ball of Summerville; son, Phillip Kirby of Rome; step sons, Lowell White of Charlotte, N.C., Dale White of Cartersville, Roger White of LaFayette, and Nolan White of Summerville; six Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Sunday, (December 13, 2009) at 3:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Bro. Todd Smith officiating, interment in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be Josh Elrod, Justin Elrod, Michael White, Brandon Gurley, Mike Sosebee and Ricky Pierce. Mr. Alton H. Scoggins

Mr. Alton Henry Scoggins, age 85, of Cloudland, GA died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Memorial Health Care.

 Mr. Scoggins was born May 23, 1924 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Arthur and Charlsie Scoggins. He was retired from DuPont Chemical Company in Kinston, NC. He was a member of the Grifton First Baptist Church. Mr. Scoggins was honored for service with Meals on Wheels in his hometown of Grifton, NC. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII.

Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Scoggins. Survivors include his wife, Aline Scoggins, daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Durwood Mills,Cloudland, GA; step-sons, Larry Womack and Terry Womack, both of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Michelle Warren, Eric Mills, and Edward Mills; 7 Great Grandchildren;4 Step-Grandchildren; and 11 Step-great-grandchldren. 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duke Stone and Rev. Scott Quinn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p. m. until the service hour on Friday.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request that memorials be made to the Hospice of Chattanooga.

Mrs. Barbara Campbell Bates

MRS. BARBARA CAMPBELL BATES, age 57, of Hunter Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Trion, Georgia,  she was born to the late Paul M. and Bertha Parker Campbell on October 10, 1952. Mrs. Bates was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, secretary for Black & Meek Milling Company, and was preceded in death by Her husband the late Ed Bates.

Surviving are daughter, Alecia Bates; son, Chance Bates both of Summerville; step children, Randy Bates of Beaver Falls, PA., Debbie Terry of Chatsworth, Kenneth Bates, Jr. of Summerville, Lisa Knoles of Summerville, Marie Jackson of Trion, Becky Brown of Trion, Kay Bates of Trion, Joan Hathcock of Summerville and Mary Kirby of Summerville; sister, Nancy Lang of LaFayette; brothers, William Campbell of Chickamauga, Glenn Campbell of Trion and Harlan Campbell of San Diego, CA.; four very special nieces and a host of special relatives.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 11, at 11am from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Patterson officiating.  Interment in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.

MRS. THELMA MARGARET GUINN, age 88, of Burton Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Monday at Her residence. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on June 23, 1921 to the late George Franklin and Lizzie Louella Skates Baggett. Mrs. Guinn was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church, retired from the spinning room of Mt. Vernon Mills, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Rev. Archie Edward Guinn; sisters-Katie Baggett and Lemmus Dearing, and a brother-George Baggett.

Surviving are daughters-Bonnie Chandler, Lisa Stewart both of Trion, Sally Benton of Loganville, and Louise Osborne of Cave Spring; sister-Evelyn Lemming of Trion; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces , and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (December 9th) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Patterson, Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev.
