Mr. Paul Wright

Mr. Paul Wright, age 85, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Wright was born May 20, 1924 in Collinsville, AL, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Wright and Minnie Clark Wright. He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Factory and was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church.  Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge, #211. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Martin.  Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. Wright, son, Dickie Vaughn, daughters, Jan Hix and Dwana VanHorn; brothers, Jimmy Wright, Carmen Wright, Alvis Wright, and Fred Wright; sisters, Jane Bishop, Elsie Cooper, and Catherine Chamblee, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Mason Funeral HomeChapel with Rev. Dean Tapp officiating. Burial will follow in Ami Cemetery with graveside military rites provided by the American Legion Shanklin-Attaway, Post 5.  Active pallbearers will be Benny Morgan, Gary Vaughn, Lee Cooper, Tim Cooper, Mark Ballard, and Casey Ray. William Cooper Gilbreath, 87 of LaFayette passed away Sunday at his residence…A life long resident of the LaFayette Area, he was a former employee of ET Barwick, and a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was a Baptist by faith….He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Robinson Gilbreath, brothers J.B.  and Robert Gilbreath and sister Viola Gilbreath.  He is survived by his wife Lillian Stoker Gilbreath of LaFayette, Son and Daughter in law Douglas and Carolyn Gilbreath of LaFayette, A daughter and son in law, Carolyn and Clint Durham of LaFayette, 4 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service will be at 1PM on Tuesday with Rev.  Lowell Cantrell and Rev. McDonald Obit

Mr. John Thomas "Tom" McDonald, SR, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McDonald was born July 30, 1920 in Gaylesville, AL, the son of the late John McDonald and Era Van Pelt McDonald. He was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship and was retired from Riegel Textile. Mr. McDonald was a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife Pauline Ruth McDonald; a son, Dr. John Thomas McDonald, JR., Minneapolis, MN; and a sister, Grace Edwards, Trion, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger McDonald and Rev. Scott Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Bessie N. Butler, age 82, of Bittings Ave., Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday afternoon (July 29, 2009) in a Rome Hospital. A daughter of the late Sam and Azor Mason Hunter, Mrs. Butler was born in Chattooga County Georgia on November 25, 1926 and was a retired textile worker.

Survivors include her husband Wayne Butler, daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Bill Hubbard of Summerville; three sisters: Mildred Edgeworth and Roxie King of Summerville, and Geneva Blackmon of Kingston, GA. two brothers: Horace Hunter of Summerville and Fred Hunter of Menlo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday (July 31, 2009) at 1:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne King and Bro. Bobby Dooley Obit

Mr. Bobby Joe Dooley, age 78, of Lyerly, GA died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Dooley was born May 31, 1931 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Edna Dooley Reynolds.

He attended Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Dooley was a veteran of the United State Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the V. F. W. Post 6688 and the Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338.

Mr. Dooley is survived by his wife, Jewell Chitwood Dooley, to whom he was married on December 4, 1954. Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Virgil Lee Hartline, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, JoAnna Hartline and Judson Hartline; step- grandchildren, Donna Hampton, Candy Fulmer, and Randy Hartline; sister, Sue Pemberton; and brothers, David Reynolds, and J. D. Reynolds, both of Rhinehart, AL.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p. m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Frank McCrickard officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery with graveside masonic rites by Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338.

Robert Emmett Gilmer, Jr.

Mr. Robert Emmett Gilmer, Jr., age 77, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Gilmer was born January 8, 1932 in Chattooga County, GA, the son of the late Robert Emmett Gilmer, Sr. and Lillie Mae Bohannon Gilmer. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Gilmer was a member of the Teloga Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean War. Mr. Gilmer was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Gilmer is survived by his wife, Brenda Gilmer; daughter, Angela M. Eyer; sister, Frances Ponder; grandchildren, C. Raenn Bailey, Abigail Atkins, Dylan Atkins, and Brandon Starnes.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 31, 2009 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. David Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Davenport, Max Hollis, Bobby Atkins, Johnny Sprayberry, Henry Eyer and Gene Brown.

MR. ELLIS F. (COOKIE) COOK, age 65, of Farm Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Monday (July 27, 2009) in a Rome hospital. A Chattooga County native He was born on June 19, 1944 to the late Clarence and Annie Spain Cook. Mr. Cook attended the Trinity Baptist Church and was retired from the tufting department of Mohawk Textile.

Mrs. Wanda Jeanette Pollard, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Pollard was born October 11, 1933 in Dekalb County, AL, the daughter of the late John and Pearl Coleman Jennings. She was a member of Silver Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mill. Mrs. Pollard was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Pollard; son, Jimmy Pollard; sisters, Hazel Hayes, Haynie Blanton, Helen Messer, and Bobbie Kabowski; brothers, Bill Jennings, Junior Jennings, Fred Jennings, Brownie Jennings, and Leath Jennings.

Mrs. Lorena Crouch, age 86, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 27, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Rome, GA.

Mrs. Crouch was born February 18, 1923 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late David Washington Searles and Hattie Mae McGraw Searles. She was retired from Riegel Textiles.

Mrs. Crouch attended First Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Mitchell; second husband, Tom Smithson, third husband, James Crouch; son, David Smithson; sister, Gladys Ivey; and a brother, Roy Searles.

Survivors include her children, Theresa and Bradley Lee, Silver Creek, GA and Jerry Mitchell, Summerville, GA; sisters, Vivian Lewis, Cedar Bluff, AL and Sue Dobson, Canton, GA; brother, Alfred Searles, Rome, GA; grandchildren, Alan Mitchell, Terry Mitchell, Jerri Berry, Joshua Lee, and Tara Lee; 9 Great-grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.
