The Town of Cedar Bluff, now has a new Mayor – or will, that is – following the official swearing-in ceremony, set to take place during the next regular Town Council meeting, in November.

During a Special-Called Meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council, Town Attorney, Bill Hawkins, explained an opinion from the Alabama State Attorney General’s Office – then made his recommendation to the current Mayor and Council.

The AG’s Office said, in essence, that the death of Steve Lay, who came in second during the August 2008 election, resulted in his ‘withdrawal’ from the race, and that third-place finisher Jimmy Wallace, would not be moved into second place as a result – therefore the candidate receiving the most votes, Ethel Sprouse, should be named Mayor.

Also during that meeting the Council and Mayor voted to set a date for the Town Council Run-Off Election – that election will be held on Tuesday, December 8th.
