The Rome Police Department and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office closed areas around Riverside Park on Friday evening due to a person in the area experiencing a mental health crisis and armed with a gun.

A large police presence responded to Riverside Parkway to resolve the situation, and the public was asked to report any suspicious activity to 911.

The Cedartown ma posted on Facebook several times stating he was hiding from an alleged crime organization.

A Georgia State Patrol helicopter was called to help law enforcement locate the subject.

Rome Police confirmed that the man took his own life as police got close to his location.
