A Centre man is now facing charges of Aggravated Assault on Police Officers, DUI and a wide assortment of traffic charges after a chase that began on the Rockmart Highway and ended in the Wilkerson Road area of west Rome.
Floyd County Police were initially called to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Highway 101 and Pleasant Valley Road, and when Officer Jeremy Penny tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off, heading into Rome.
An officer was out of his vehicle, and was in the process of laying down spike strips on Turner McCall when the offender allegedly swerved at the officers patrol unit – the sticks did blow-out two tires on the small pick-up, but the driver continued to head into west Rome on the rims, until he was finally apprehended.
28 year old James Brent Morgan, also reportedly tried to kick his way out of the patrol vehicle after being placed under arrest, causing minor damage to the inside of the cruiser
