Mega Millions will introduce several changes next month, including new ticket prices, jackpots, and improved odds of winning. Starting April 4, tickets will cost $5 each, replacing the previous $2 price. An optional add-on for increasing non-jackpot prizes and a $3 feature for two jackpot plays will be removed.

The higher ticket price comes with better odds; the chance of winning any prize will change from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23, but winning the jackpot will still be extremely rare, with odds improving from 1 in 302,575,350 to 1 in 290,472,336. This brings Mega Millions jackpot odds closer to Powerball’s odds of 1 in 292. 2 million.

The jackpot will also increase, rising from a minimum of $20 million to $50 million, with expected average jackpots over $800 million. Smaller prize multipliers will also be included. Mega Millions drawings will continue on Tuesdays and Fridays, with the first drawing under these changes set for April 8.
