The Chattanooga Area Food Bank, which serves Northwest Georgia counties, has received a $1 million donation by the Frank P. Pierce Foundation to fight hunger in North West Georgia.
Melanie Hammontree is with the Northwest Georgia Area Food Bank in Dalton which is expanding. She said the expansion project is costing about $3.4 million.
“The total project at this point for the Northwest Georgia expansion is 3.4 million dollars. So, as part of that we made an ask to this foundation to support this Northwest Georgia project and they came back to us and said they would like to support Northwest Georgia. They actually did not restrict it to this project,” Hammontree said.
According to Feeding America, one in six adults in Northwest Georgia are facing hunger in the Northwest Georgia Food Bank’s service area.
