THE LAFAYETTE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION HAS SET POLICIES FOR THE NEW MUSEUM, TO BE HOUSED INSIDE THE CHATTAOOGA ACADEMY. RENOVATION WILL BE FINISHED SOON AT THE HISTORIC BRICK SCHOOL BUILDING IN LAFAYETTE.A GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION WILL BE HELD ON MAY 2nd.  THE YEARS OF THE MUSEUM’S FOCUS WILL BE 1835 TO 1925. DONATED ARTIFACTS FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY MUST DATE FROM THAT PERIOD. THE MUSEUM’S FOCUS WILL BE AS A HISTORIC SCHOOL INCLUDING PERIOD DESKS AND SCHOOL BOOKS. OTHER EXHIBITS WILL DEAL WITH THE BUILDING’S HISTORY, ITS ROLE IN THE CIVIL WAR, AND JOHN B. GORDON’S ASSOCIATION WITH THE BUILDING AND THE CITY’S GROWTH.
ROTATING EXHIBITS OF LOCAL INTEREST WILL ALSO BE PREPARED TO MAINTAIN INTEREST. SOME PROPOSED, INCLUDE COCA-COLA ARTIFACTS FROM THE LOCAL BOTTLING PLANT, NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACTS, AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY, THE HISTORY OF TEXTILES AND QUILTS AND "FIRSTS" FOR WALKER COUNTY.
