The Chattooga Board of Education will hold a called meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.  The meeting will be held at the Chattooga County Education Center on Penn Street in Summerville at 6 PM.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the millage rate that will be set by the board of education.  Property owners in Chattooga County pay two different portions of property tax; one is set by the county commissioner and the other is set by the board of education.

“Millage” or “millage rate” means the levy, in mills, which is established by the governing authority for purposes of financing, in whole or in part, the taxing jurisdiction’s expenses for its fiscal year.  A mill is defined as 1-1000th of a dollar.

The board of education is expected to set the millage rate for its portion of property taxes within the upcoming weeks.
