The Chattooga County Board of Education is planning to give bonuses to employees, pending state approval of the school system’s budget.

Board of Education Chairman Eddie Elsberry told WZQZ News that the local school system’s budget has been submitted to the state Department of Education and they are currently waiting to hear back on approval.  The budget includes funds that were received from the Federal government under the CARES Act – the massive COVID relief package that was passed by Congress.

Elsberry said, “We plan to give all full time employees a one time $2,500 supplement. Part time employees will receive a pro rated supplement. Our teachers and staff have went above and beyond during the COVID crisis and are most deserving of this bonus”.

The money was approved by Congress in March of this year in a $2.2 trillion package to provide relief from the COVID-19 pandemic.
