On Thursday evening the Chattooga Board of Education voted to return to a four-day schedule, with Monday’s for virtual learning.

The new schedule will go in place September 14th. Teachers, staff and administrators will work on Monday’s.

The schedule will remain in place for the rest of the semester.

BOE Chairman Eddie Elsberry told WZQZ News on Thursday night that the school board will continue to monitor the COVID-19 cases within the school system and could make further changes to the in-school schedule in the future.

Elsberry said, “Superintendant Hosmer, assistant super Martin and the school system’s Chief Academic Officer Officer  presented the board with a plan to allow teachers to deliver both in-class and virtual lessons.

The number of quarantined students and teachers is increasing on almost a daily basis. The vast majority of this quarantined number of students and staff is not Covid positive but those who may have had direct contact with Covid positive persons and require a 14 day quarantine period. So far our count of Covid positive is below 2%”

The board supported the plan with a 5-0 vote.

Elsberry added “The board  commended our administrators, teachers and staff for their commitment to deliver the best education possible to our students.”
