The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce is set to host a crucial “Lunch and Learn” event tomorrow, Tuesday, September 16th, focusing on the future of digital identification and essential fraud prevention strategies. The session, held at the Chattooga Civic Center, will feature Josh Powell, an expert from the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS).

Powell, a familiar face to the community as a former employee of the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, will return to discuss his work with the Georgia DDS over the past two years. His presentation will delve into the state’s progress with digital driver’s licenses (mDLs) and the latest advancements in fraud prevention. Attendees will receive valuable tips on how to protect themselves from various fraudulent schemes in an increasingly digital world.

This educational opportunity comes at a pivotal time as Georgia prepares for a significant shift in its identification system. House Bill 296, enacted to legally recognize a mobile Driver’s License (mDL) as a valid form of identification across the state, took effect on July 1, 2025. This move aims to modernize how Georgians present their ID, ushering in a more convenient and secure digital future, but also necessitates understanding the ongoing transitional period.

Chamber officials emphasize this session as vital for residents and businesses to stay informed about emerging digital identification technology and to protect themselves against evolving security threats.
