As the region braces for colder weather, the Community Resource Center of Chattooga (CRC) is calling on local ministries, organizations, and concerned citizens to join its annual Homeless Collaboration Meeting. The critical convening is designed to coordinate services, share resources, and finalize preparation plans to support the most vulnerable residents throughout the upcoming winter months.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 11th, at 6:00 p.m. at the CRC building. Everyone currently involved in aiding the homeless population, as well as individuals eager to learn how they can contribute, is highly encouraged to attend.

“When we come together as a community, real change happens,” said Angela Hutchins, Executive Director of CRC Chattooga. “Every act of kindness adds up. Together, we can help more people find safety, dignity, and hope this winter.”

Building on Success

The upcoming meeting aims to build upon significant achievements resulting from last year’s collaborative efforts. One major success was the opening of a brand-new laundry facility at the CRC, offering free services on Mondays and Fridays, particularly for individuals and families without stable housing. This project was made possible through dedicated local partners, including Hunter’s Furniture, the Farm Bureau, and generous community members.

These efforts work seamlessly alongside Heart’s Cry ministry, which provides essential shower and laundry services for women on Tuesdays and Thursdays and for men on Wednesdays. Together, these entities ensure neighbors in need have consistent opportunities to feel clean, cared for, and connected.

Efficiency was also greatly enhanced through a grant from the Menlo-Tillotson Charitable Foundation, which allowed CRC to establish a shared database. This system enables organizations such as Hearts Cry, Father’s Heart Café, Alarming Truth Ministries, and Connect City Church to coordinate efforts, prevent the overlap of services, and more efficiently reach those requiring assistance.

Warming Stations and Real Change

Perhaps the most critical outcome of last year’s collaboration was the operation of a successful warming station during periods of dangerously low temperatures. This vital service was achieved through the teamwork of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), the local 911 center, and a dedicated network of volunteers, offering safe and warm shelter when it was needed most.

The impact of this work is evidenced by stories like Billy’s. Last winter, Billy sought refuge at the warming station. Through this entry point, he was connected to CRC’s Resource Navigation program, which helped him secure job opportunities and find permanent housing. Today, Billy is working full-time, living independently, and has begun giving back by volunteering to help others currently walking the same road he once traveled.

As the community looks ahead to the cold season, the November 11th meeting will provide local ministries and volunteers the chance to share updates, coordinate available services, and solidify plans to meet the rising needs of the vulnerable population.

CRC urges all involved stakeholders or interested volunteers to participate. Together, the community can ensure last year’s successes continue to grow, bringing warmth, hope, and critical aid throughout Chattooga County.
