Chattooga County residents are advised to prepare for a necessary traffic disruption starting next week, as Hair Lake Road will undergo a full closure for continued maintenance and repairs.

According to a press release issued Friday by Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen, Hair Lake Road, specifically the stretch between Mahan Road and Beavers Road, will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday morning, October 27, 2025, pending favorable weather conditions.

The closure is expected to last through the end of the business day on Tuesday, October 28. Motorists traveling through the area are strongly urged to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes during this two-day period.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement from Commissioner Allen read. “Timely updates will be provided should the repair schedule change.”

Temporary Access This Weekend

While the full closure is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, county officials noted that temporary repairs are already underway.

Residents traveling on Hair Lake Road this weekend (October 25-26) should proceed with extreme caution. Temporary signage and steel plates have been installed to accommodate thru traffic during the initial phase of ongoing road work.

The closure starting Monday is required to complete the necessary heavy maintenance.

For questions or concerns regarding the road repairs or the closure schedule, residents are directed to contact Tim Brunson, Public Services Superintendent, at 706-767-8350.
