Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney has successfully completed the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide-prevention program, earning certification as a QPR Gatekeeper through the QPR Institute.

The program’s mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing practical, proven training to help individuals recognize warning signs and guide those at risk toward professional assistance.

With suicide rates rising nationally, the skills taught through the QPR program are designed to serve as an important tool in potentially redirecting someone who may be experiencing a mental-health crisis. The certification enables the coroner to better identify signs of suicidal intent, intervene compassionately, and connect individuals with the help they need.

Officials say this training reflects the ongoing commitment of the Chattooga County Coroner’s Office to reduce preventable deaths throughout the county through proactive education and community-focused prevention efforts.
