For the 5th year, the Chattooga County Democratic Party will sponsor a Black History Month celebration on Saturday, February 28 at 7 pm. The event, titled “Celebrating Our Heritage Through Poem and Song,” will feature local talent performing songs, dances and spoken word tributes to black history. This special event will take place at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.
This year, the Community Service Award will be presented to Harry Harvey in recognition of his many years of service as Mayor of Summerville as well as his contributions as a teacher and principal. The Community Spirit Award will be given to Melvin Mosley who is a local minister, a retired educator and provides chaplain services to our local court system. Self-taught painter Billy Smith will receive the Community Artist Award for his art which enhances the streets of Summerville in the oversized Coca-Cola bottles and with his personal portraits.
If you would like to perform at the event, please contact Pam Albert at (706) 859-8044 for more information on how to participate.
Along with the entertainment, refreshments will also be provided. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of inspiration and joy celebrating our community’s accomplishments and talents.
