The Chattooga County Extension Office has announced that several of its diagnostic agricultural services will undergo small price adjustments beginning December 1, 2025. The update comes as the University of Georgia Extension System works to offset rising shipping and processing costs associated with soil, water, and forage testing.

According to Extension staff, the changes are minimal but necessary to ensure the continued accuracy and reliability of laboratory services farmers and homeowners depend on throughout the year.

Under the new pricing structure:

  • Basic soil tests will increase from $9 to $10

  • Basic water tests will rise from $23 to $25

  • Basic forage tests will now cost $25

These diagnostic tools play a critical role in helping producers manage soil fertility, monitor water quality, and evaluate forage nutrient content—key factors in sustaining healthy crops and livestock.

Extension officials emphasized that the price adjustments are in direct response to higher statewide shipping rates and laboratory expenses. They also expressed appreciation to the community for its continued support.

“We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause,” the office said in a statement. “Thank you for your understanding as we work to maintain efficient, high-quality agricultural services for Chattooga County.”

The Chattooga County Extension Office remains committed to providing timely, research-based resources to farmers, homeowners, and youth across the region.
