After a year off during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair will be returning this week. The fair will take place Thursday, August 26 – Sunday, August 29 and will be held on the grounds of the Chattooga County Agricultural Center and Summerville Middle School.

The first agricultural fair in Chattooga County was held in 1904 in front of the courthouse in downtown Summerville.  Over the years, the fair eventually moved to a location in the city limits of Summerville near Fair Street and the Fairway Recreation Center.   In the late 20th century, the fair ceased to exist.

But in 2014, the fair was revived and has seen much success over the past seven years.  2020 was a difficult time for the Chattooga County Fair Council, but the council has bounced back and is set to present the fair once again this year.

The purpose of the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair is to showcase agriculture in the county – especially the agricultural students.  Chattooga County has an active 4H and FFA program with hundreds of students that learn life lessons by their participation in these organizations.
