The latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that Chattooga County gained 108 more residents in 2022. The numbers factor in deaths and adds in births and likely reflects an influx of people moving into the area.
The numbers for most surrounding counties have gone up as well, with one exception being Dade County, which showed a loss of 149 residents. Walker County saw an increase by 510 new residents. The news comes as no surprise to those who have noticed the limited numbers of properties for sale and the increase in real estate values over the past four years. Many believe that the increase in property values has been spurred by the influx of people from out of state who have found property prices attractive and are moving to Northwest Georgia from more expensive parts of the country.
While the real estate market has cooled off a bit over the past several months, real estate prices continue to be higher than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic which began in 2020.
