In response to these challenges, local organizations like the Pregnancy Resource Center of Chattooga County are actively working to support young individuals and families. The center emphasizes its mission to “support Moms and families through pregnancy tests, consultation, peer counseling, educational Parenting Classes, maternity clothing, and baby supplies.”

The Pregnancy Resource Center offers free, laboratory-quality pregnancy tests, which they state are highly accurate. For those receiving a positive test result at their facility, an ultrasound appointment can be scheduled, though some restrictions apply. Limited ultrasounds are available by appointment.

STD tests can be performed by a medical provider or at the local County Health Department. A key concern raised is that most STDs are asymptomatic, meaning symptoms may not be visibly present. If left undiagnosed and untreated, STDs can cause serious, permanent, and irreversible damage to an individual’s health and reproductive system. Furthermore, the center points out that some STDs can also threaten the health and life of an unborn child, emphasizing this as an issue requiring serious consideration.
