The Chattooga County Library is accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant I position, according to a job announcement from the Sara Hightower Regional Library System.

The library assistant will be responsible for helping patrons check materials in and out, answering general reference questions, issuing library cards, responding to telephone inquiries, and assisting with other daily library operations.

Additional responsibilities include sorting and shelving returned materials, maintaining orderly collections, retrieving items from the library’s drop box, checking for overdue or lost materials, and keeping bookshelves organized.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. The position also requires good written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency, and knowledge of library operations, including the Dewey Decimal classification system.

The job involves regular interaction with library patrons and staff. Physical requirements include occasional lifting, bending, stooping, standing, and sitting.

The position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
