Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is urging property owners to be on the lookout for their 2025 property tax bills, which were sent to the printer last week and will be mailed the first of October. Hampton also emphasized the critical importance of ensuring the county has the correct mailing address on file, as the payment deadline approaches on December 2, 2025.

The initial mailing address for property tax bills is derived from the address submitted when a property deed is filed. This means that property owners who have moved or changed their mailing address since purchasing their property must take action to update it with the county.

Additionally, Hampton clarified that for parcels with no structures attached – such as undeveloped land – there is no physical address for the property. In these cases, bills will continue to be mailed to the address on file from the property deed unless the owner has specifically notified the Tax Commissioner’s or Assessor’s office of a change.

To update a mailing address, property owners have convenient options:

  • Contact the Property Assessor’s office directly.
  • Update online through the Tax Commissioner’s office websites: www.chattoogatax.com or www.chattoogacountytax.com.

Hampton also highlighted that property owners can easily view their property tax information and pay their taxes online.

Property owners are strongly encouraged to verify their address. The deadline for paying Chattooga County property taxes for the 2025 tax year is December 2, 2025, and failure to pay by this date may result in late fees and other penalties.

  • An earlier version of this story indicated tax bills had been mailed.  Tax Commissioner Hampton says that are at the printers, and will be in mailboxes by the first week of October.
