Last week Chattooga County Sheriffs Deputies investigated a report of a phone scam reported.

On December 30th, Deputies met with Walter McNeese who told officers that he had received a scam phone call and that he had been scammed out of $964 from his and his wife Aprils’ checking account.

Walter advised that the scammer called from 1-800-734-4667 which he said was an actual Regions Bank phone
number. The scammer advised Walter that he was from Regions Fraud Department and he was trying to stop a C.J Miller making a transaction on his account. Mr. McNeese gave the scammer his bank login, social security number, and date of birth. The scammer already had Mrs. McNeeses phone number, the bank account number, and the routing number. Mr. McNeese then received  emails and texts that looked like the scammer actually was an employee of Regions Bank during the incident. The $964 that was taken out their checking and savings account was sent it to a Zelle account with the email britinemitch@gmail.com attached to it. Walter went to the bank and the bank advised to file a police report regarding the matter.
