Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen says he and Sheriff Mark Schrader will be reviewing bids for a new roof at the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office on Underwood Dairy Road in Trion.

According to Allen, the aging roof has led to mold and other ongoing issues at the Sheriff’s Office. Bids for the project were opened last Friday, and the commissioner said he plans to consult with Sheriff Schrader before making a decision in the coming days.

The county is seeking to replace the roof at the Sheriff’s Department, located at 533 Underwood Dairy Road in Trion. Project specifications call for removal of the existing EPDM membrane roofing and installation of a .060 TPO thermoplastic polyolefin roofing system.

The work will also include replacement of flashing, trim, and sealants, along with the installation or replacement of collector boxes and downspouts. In addition, contractors will be expected to remove abandoned roof penetrations and temporarily remove lightning protection systems so they can be reinstalled after the roofing work is complete.

County officials have said bids must include the total project cost, proof of licensing and insurance, an estimated timeline for completion, and references for similar commercial roofing projects.

A final decision on the bid award is expected after the commissioner and sheriff complete their review.
