Chattooga County Schools started back yesterday with in-person learning after the winter holidays and they started in a COVID positive deficit.
Students started back in the classroom yesterday, after almost 4 weeks of either virtual learning or on break all together, and they already have several positive COVID cases. 7 students did not return due to having a positive COVID test. A further 60 plus were quarantined due to exposure outside of the school system.
According to Assistant Superintendent, Jeff Martin these are cases that happened during the school break and not from contact at the school. Assistant Superintendent Martin praised the communication from the parents and guardians of these students. “Our parents have been great about contacting us with cases and exposure situations. Without this communication we could not do proper contact tracing.”, said Martin.
Assist. Superintendent Martin does ask that everyone continue to wear a mask when social distancing is not possible, and for those who need a mask they are available in the respective school office. The school system is continuing to monitor all COVID cases in the system and has a plan in place should the need arise.
