The Chattooga County School System is gearing up for the start of a new school year tomorrow, and parents and students are invited to attend a Meet the Teacher night this evening, taking place from 4 PM to 6 PM at Menlo Elementary, Lyerly Elementary, Leroy Massey Elementary, Summerville Middle School, and Chattooga High School. This event presents a valuable opportunity for families to connect with educators and learn more about the academic year ahead.

In a welcoming announcement, Chattooga County School Superintendent Michelle Heile confirmed that the district will provide free breakfast and lunch for all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a federal initiative backed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this program, families are relieved from completing traditional meal applications, ensuring easier access to nutrition for every student.

This year also marks the arrival of new leadership in key roles within the district. Dr. Richard Rutledge has assumed the principal position at Menlo School, bringing with him 30 years of educational leadership experience and a commitment to student-centered learning. Dr. Rutledge previously served as a math teacher at Summerville Middle and Chattooga High Schools. Known for his collaborative leadership style, he expressed enthusiasm about becoming part of the Menlo School community and is dedicated to fostering high expectations and community support for all students.

“I am excited about the opportunity to become a part of the team at Menlo School,” said Dr. Rutledge. “We want our students to be equipped with the character, skills, and knowledge to be the leaders for their generation. Together we can achieve greatness for our students, school, and community.”

Additionally, Dr. Alissa Hanrahan joins Leroy Massey Elementary School with a rich background that includes roles such as GaTAPP Specialist at First District RESA and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning at the Georgia Department of Education. With over 25 years of experience in various educational roles, Dr. Hanrahan is committed to supporting educators and empowering students.

“I’m incredibly honored to join this amazing school community and can’t wait to kick off a year full of growth, joy, and success,” said Dr. Hanrahan, reinforcing the school’s mission to “Expect Excellence. Every Child. Every Day.”

The community is invited to welcome both Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Hanrahan at tonight’s Meet the Teacher event. The school district is confident that their leadership will pave the way for exciting developments and a productive year ahead for all students and families in Chattooga County.

As the new school year begins, parents and students alike are encouraged to attend and engage with their new school environment, setting a positive tone for what promises to be an inspiring academic year.
