Today is Veterans Day, the day set aside to remember those who have served in our nation’s armed forces.  There are a couple of events planned for today to commemorate veterans in our area.

Veterans Day is held each year on November 11th. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11 AM on the 11th day of the 11th month, back in 1918.

A veterans ceremony at Menlo School will take place at 9:30 AM in the gymnasium.  The program will recognize local veterans attending the event, along with deceased veterans from the area.  The Veterans Day program at Menlo Elementary School is a long-standing tradition and the public is invited to attend.

Also today, Veteran’s for our American Flag will be raising a large flag on Scott Hill, near Highway 27 south at 2 PM on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.  The flag raising will be an event to honor WWII Veteran Robert Duke, recipient of 3 Bronze Stars while serving in the Army during WWII in the European Theater.

Scott Hill is located in the Gore Community on U.S. Highway 27 between the intersections of Farmersville and Unity Church Road.   The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony this Veterans Day.
