A beacon of patriotism proudly overlooking the Gore Community will soon fly a fresh Stars and Stripes, thanks to the dedicated efforts of local veterans. This Saturday, November 15th, at 2:00 PM, the group known as Veterans for our American Flag will gather on Scott Hill to replace the large American flag that has become a cherished landmark in Chattooga County.
The initiative began in 2021 when a group of veterans, who had been meeting informally for breakfast discussions, conceived the idea of honoring their fellow local heroes and the nation’s flag with a prominent display. Their vision led to the erection of a substantial American flag atop Scott Hill, a location chosen for its visibility and significance. The project was successfully brought to fruition on Veterans Day of that year through the veterans’ fundraising and hard work.
This year’s flag exchange promises to be a meaningful community event. Area Boy Scouts will be on hand to assist with the ceremonial lowering of the old flag and the raising of the new one. The event will also feature a special guest speaker, a musical performance by a singer, and the poignant sounds of a trumpet solo.
All citizens are invited and encouraged to attend this special occasion to show their support for local veterans and their enduring patriotism. Scott Hill is conveniently located in the Gore Community, accessible via U.S. Highway 27, situated between the intersections of Farmersville Road and Unity Church Road.
The Veterans for our American Flag group continues their commitment to upholding the spirit of service and remembrance for all who have served the United States. This event offers a chance for the community to come together and acknowledge this dedication.
