Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters awarded a bid to Billy Woods to begin hauling the waste to the landfill for the county.  Mr. Woods and his partner David Fletcher submitted the low bid of $7.90 a ton for the service. 

Commissioner Winters told AM 1180 on Thursday evening that the bid advertisement listed the service to start December 1st but that was an error.  According to the commissioner the advertisement should have read January 1st.

At the commissioner’s meeting earlier this week Winters said that the service would be turned over to the private company "as soon as they have everything in order."  Winters told AM 1180 that the company was installing a hydraulic pump on their truck and when that is done they will begin hauling the waste to the landfill in Calhoun. 

Former Commissioner Mike Dawson began the practice of the county government hauling its’ own waste to the landfill as a money-saving effort.  Commissioner Winters told AM 1180 back in November, "these things run in cycles…and now it may save the county money to let someone else haul the solid waste."

Winters said that he believed that Jarrett’s Trucking had hauled a load to the landfill this week and that the county had hauled some as well and expects that Mr. Woods would begin hauling sometime next week.
