In April of 2014, Chattooga County 4-H and FFA students began their 19 week Poultry Project for the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  Each student received eight chicks that were two days old.  The students have been caring for their poultry projects with the goal of participating in the first Chattooga County Agricultural Livestock show in over forty years! Their top three chickens will be brought to the fair on Thursday, August 21st for judging. At 7:00 pm following the show, Auctioneer Pete Denson will help get the students get top dollar for their birds.  The chickens the students are selling will be 19 week old Black Sex Link pullets. This type of chicken typically starts laying eggs at 20 weeks of age. These chickens are known for their large brown eggs and are considered a dual purpose breed. Each student will keep 100% of the money that their three chickens earn during the auction. All youth poultry auction sales are eligible as a tax deductible donation. The public is invited to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair on August 21st to support Chattooga County youth by purchasing their poultry projects. If you plan to purchase chickens, please arrive by 6:30 pm to the Livestock Barn through the general admissions gate to register and receive a bid number. Auction will begin at 7:00 pm.
