While Chattooga County’s unemployment rate remains high – higher than the state average and higher than many of our neighboring counties – the trend is headed in the right direction.  For the second month in a row, the unemployment rate has dropped in Chattooga County.  February’s unemployment dropped almost a full percentage point from 12.9% in January of this year to 12% in December.

The unemployment rate is down this year from a rate of 13.7% in February of 2010.  In Walker County the unemployment rate has dropped below 10% down to 9.4% and Floyd County has a rate of 10.7%.  Whitfield County has the highest unemployment rate in Northwest Georgia at 12.2%.
