According to numbers released this week by the Georgia Department of Labor, the unemployment rate in Chattooga County was unchanged from June to July of this year and stands at 4.7%. 

Despite the unchanged unemployment rate, there were fewer workers reported in July of this year than their were in June in Chattooga County.

The unemployment rate is a point higher than it was this time last year when the rate was at 3.7%.

In Northwest Georgia, Chattooga, Floyd, Polk and Gordon Counties all had unemployment rates over 4%.  Whitfield and Murray Counties both had unemployment rates over 6% – the highest in the Northwest Georgia Region.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday, “With over 5 million Georgians ready to work, our mission is clear: to turn this untapped potential into real, meaningful job opportunities. He added, “To build a stronger, more resilient Georgia for tomorrow, we must partner with businesses today to create jobs, leverage the power of our skilled workforce, and keep unemployment low.”
