A Chattooga County couple who were wanted by police in Indiana, were arrested this week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a report released on Friday, the local sheriff’s office was contacted by police in Mullberry, Indiana concerning Stephanie Blackwell.  The Indiana police officer said that Blackwell had a felony warrant from Jackson County, Indiana for failure to appear on an auto theft charge and had fled from the jurisdiction to prevent prosecution.

Indiana police said that Blackwell, and her husband who was also wanted, were staying at a Maffett Street, Trion address.   Police in Indiana said that Mrs. Blackwell had been contacting someone and asking them to forward their mail to that address.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with Mr. Blackwell who said that his wife was asleep.  After waking her up, deputies arrested the couple and charged them with being fugitives from justice.

The couple will be extradited to Indiana to face auto theft charges.
