Last week the Georgia Department of Public Health had Chattooga County listed as a “County of High Transmission” for COVID-19.  That designation was dropped on the weekly report released on Wednesday by the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health.  However, two adjacent counties are on the list for “high transmission.”

The latest update from the Department of Public Health points out that Walker County is currently showing high transmission indicators of COVID-19.  The only other Northwest Georgia County with high transmission currently, is Floyd County.

New cases of COVID-19 are increasing in Walker, Dade and Catoosa Counties, all with a 5-percent or greater change in the seven day average of new cases. Walker County is also showing an increase in emergency room visits with COVID symptoms.

The Georgia Department of Public Health says that social distancing is still the best tool in slowing down the transmission of the coronavirus.
